Ropiteau Vin De France

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2000

9.4

Just entering its drinking window. It has 40 years ahead of it. Excellent with Ribcap from Costco.

Interesting that there are some vegetable notes on the nose.

Very good evolution. Medium plus tannins. Juicy, ripe blackberries, black raspberries, darkest cherries, black plum/ with skin, ripe strawberries, some blue fruit hues, cedar, black licorice/cola, dark rich earth w/ leaves, sandstone, steeped sun tea, light limestone powder, ripe, light, dark spice, clove, light cinnamon, hints of nutmeg, vanillin, moist volcanic clay, fresh red, dark flowers, framed in violets, round acidity with polish/balance, softly tensioned, elegant that falls on mineral & clay that lasts two-minutes.

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2004 Léoville Barton is less opulent on the nose than the Langoa but offers a little more refinement and terroir expression. A touch of seaweed develops with time. The palate is fresh on the entry. It is one of the most saline Léoville Barton that gets the saliva flowing. It is classic old-school Anthony Barton with a judicious dab of black pepper and menthol furnishing the finish. Excellent. (Neal Martin, Vinous, June 2024)

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

La Tâche Pinot Noir 1980

What an extraordinary nose. Wild strawberry, violets, cherry pop, plums, mushrooms. This is enchanting and dynamic. On the palate light and subtle. Delicate., quite haunting with a pretty spring sweetness. This is lovely. — 19 days ago

Domaine François Raveneau

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Not sure there are better 13 whites than Raveneau. Lafon also comes to mind. It’s an early drinking vintage (by Raveneau standards) while you wait for 12 and 14. Also, no Chapelot this year so it’s blended in here. A multi hour advance decant has it rocking, stunningly aromatic, soaring with layers of créme fraîche, baking spice, crushed stones and a whisper of botrytis influenced saffron. The palate shows immense power, concentration and depth of waxy yellow fruit chiseled with Chablisen minerality. Brilliant tension and racy lemony acids provide a seamless balance to its power and richness. MDT always hits 🫰🏻 — a month ago

This wine was singing tonight. Absolutely gorgeous nose. The fruit was ripe and so well integrated with minerality and a great mouthfeel. Was wonderful with some wagyu steaks. — 9 days ago

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Excellent Bordeaux probably one of the most approachable examples despite its young age. Bright red and dark fruit with good crescendo balanced by velvety tannins and soft notes of vanilla, nutmeg and wet dirt. Medium bodied and medium alcohol with balanced acidity. Cheers. — 18 days ago

Domaine Jamet

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2012

Amazing vintage for Jamet that you can drink now but will continue to develop for many years. Consistent with my many prior notes showing lots of dark cherry, raspberry, meat, blood, olive, pepper, spice & crushed violets — 14 days ago

Château Calon-Ségur

Amazing w/ the Allen Brothers A-5 wagyu.

This is another Bordeaux producer that makes wines for the ages. I’ve waited & waited on 2000, this shows some readiness. Yet, will go another 20 plus years.

Tonight this is well balanced earth & candied fruit. In 10 years, this is candied fruit & florals.

Still medium plus tannins. Blackberries, black raspberries, black plum with ample skin, juicy dark cherries, poached strawberries, raspberries, dry limestone grains with powder, dark, forest floor with dry leaves, some dry herbaceousiness-bay leaf, mint, dark spice, clove, nutmeg, some cinnamon, hints of vanillin, mid berry cola, sandalwood to cedar shavings, used leather, pipe tobacco, anise, some mocha, sun tea, dark, red, purple flowers with a touch of blue, excellent acidity and a well knitted structure, balanced, nicely tensioned with a ripe, elegant finish that lasts two-minutes.

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

It’s was fine. But underwhelming. Perhaps it was not quite ready to open. Decanted and long aeration helped but it’s still lacked the oomph I expect from a Latour. Fruit was mature but less focused than normal. Beautiful color though. — 3 hours ago
