Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Bolgheri Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Even after 16 years, this wine will last. Lush plum flavors, tobacco, mocha mixed with berries and leather. Has many years left. — a month ago

Langhe Nebbiolo 2023

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2023 pours a bright garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of raspberries, pomegranate, rose bushes in bloom, licorice, gravelly earth and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This was a perfect red for duck confit outside on a warm day. Drink now through 2033. — 5 days ago

Riserva Cannonau di Sardegna 2021

Sardinia wines are reported to have health benefits...sooooo the fact that the color is rich, the acids hang a bit, and the mineral flavor is silky...I'm in! — 25 days ago

Giacomo Conterno

Riserva Monfortino Barolo Nebbiolo 2000

Medium ruby , slightly lighter rim , touch of terracotta . This is really quite complex , with more development than the others. Slightly more spiced cherry , touch of smoky tea , high toned with rose , truffle and leather . Each time you return to the glass you can find something new . On the palate this is very fresh , some earthy sous bois , red cherry , porcini , elegant and refined , very long length. Spiced cherry , earthy , truffled finish . Polished but noticeable tannins , fresh acidity , perfectly balanced , alcohol completely integrated . Really refined and elegant, enormously complex and thrilling to drink . Just starting to drink quite well with time and will probably continue at this level if not improve over the next 10-15 years — 24 days ago

Castello di Monsanto

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2020

Really tasty. Full bodied with medium acidity and medium/high tannins. Plums with hints of blueberry are joined by interesting herbal notes of thyme and sage. Also has a nice earthiness that veers into a touch of just-ground coffee beans accompanying the fruit and herbal flavors on the finish. Really good, and went well with meatball, ricotta, and mushroom pizza. — 2 months ago

@Dave I really enjoyed it. Looking to explore more CC. Didn’t have good experiences in the past with Chianti, but I didn’t know that classico was the subregion to get.

Of the other subregions, there are some really good producers of Chianti Rufina.

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2007

We had a vertical tasting with 2007. Both excellent. 07 lighter in color. 07 a little more fragrant. Both had tastes of leather tobacco and black cherry. Both medium bodied. Going forward, I will drink Brunello sooner than 20 years. Some fruit got lost a bit — a month ago

Cascina Francia Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

Medium ruby , medium wide garnet rim . Quite open and exuberante , lots of sweet red cherry, raspberry and touch of menthol and sweet spices, hickory . Quite sweet profile. On the palate this has nice spice and menthol hints , sweet red cherry fruit , ripe tannins , but with good grip, quite gritty with good length . Balanced acidity , touch of alcohol noticeable . Overall quite sweetly red fruit focussed , pure and expressive. This is showing quite well , though still young and fruit focused. Probably better in 3-5 years and will continue to show well over the next 10 years or so . — 24 days ago
