A winner straight out of the gate. Sweet cherries and blueberries with hints of smoke. A delight. — a month ago

Bric dël Fiasc Barolo Nebbiolo 1999

Such a beautifully complex, tasty barolo. Has a spectacular nose with tar, leather, burnt maple, and dark cherry. Complex aromas that seem to evolve constantly in the glass. On the palate some initial charcuterie notes quickly burn off, leaving a pure and intense dark cherry that saturates the palate with some earthy cocoa, anise, and balsamic. Mouthfeel is silky smooth. Long finish with cloves, anise, dark cherry, and dry-aged meat. So tasty. This went perfectly with parmesan crusted rack of lamb, spring herb and parmesan risotto, and roasted asparagus. Medium/full bodied with medium- acidity and fully integrated tannins. An intense garnet color with orange bricking on the rim. I’d think this is near its peak. Decanted for an hour, although I don’t think it gained much compared to an initial PnP. Day 2 update: Finished a glass that was remaining in bottle. Holding up well with little change. Still as tasty as Day 1. — 2 months ago

Had a blood red color that was consistent throughout the glass. Smelled of red fruit and tasted of cherry and had a dry feeling from tannins. — 3 months ago

Tame is the right word. This Barolo is moving out of its wild youth, but can still age some. Soft fruit and new leather, a little sage. Tannins are mellow, decanted for 2 hours. Paired with pork medallions in a basil cream sauce. Good pairing.

I usually go 10 years minimum but I was in the mood for Barolo and this one was a bargain. Let it breathe for awhile and you can see a bit into the future 😀 @Tegan Marriott

Totally agree with you on the timing with barolos. I think I'll open a langhe nebbiolo or one from alto piedmont before baby killing! Cheers to you!

Barolo Nebbiolo 2021

Approachable after 1 hr decant. Cherry-cranberry fruit, hints of black, leathery palate. A little short and it’s not the most complex. But very good now, and for a Barolo you can buy at Costco and open that night, it’s terrific — 3 months ago

2019 vintage. Decanted and tasted after one hour. Medium body. Vibrant and drinking great now but a decade wait might just up the ante. Tough to lay off tho. 2.20.26. — 3 months ago

Serralunga d'Alba Barolo Nebbiolo 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2021 Classico pours a bright garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose the wine is developing with beautiful notes of ripe Morello cherry, raspberry, tart forest strawberry’s, a whole bouquet of roses, hibiscus, saltwater taffy, tar, assorted green herbs, old wood and dry dusty earth. After about an hour or so, pomegranate enters the chat. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. These are early days but I’m really excited to track how these evolve with time. Drink now through 2051. — 4 months ago

This is dangerously good. The peach and pear flavors are vibrant and just mesmerizing, and it has a nice minerality and good acidity that help balance the flavors out. If you don’t watch yourself, this bottle will be empty in a flash. This is just what I needed to remind me that summer is around the corner, and soon this New England winter will be a distant memory. — 2 months ago

@Joel Lara The vibe I’ve been getting lately (last 3 mos) is that peeps wanna (occasionally) drink past the usual Sauvie B, Chard/white Burg/bubbles options. Riesling is still the bastard stepchild as are any derivatives/associates. White Rhônes, Arneis, Albariño and a few others seriously solicting interest.

@Scott@Mister A’s-San Diego Interesting! Any suggestions for white Rhônes or Albarinos? I’ve never had either but would like to explore. I haven’t been drinking much whites lately except for sparklers the last few years. I was exploring Chablis and Assyrtiko a few years back and really liked them, but just fell off my radar for some reason.

Castiglione Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

Balsamic notes with a trace of mint. Barely medium weight with a soft fleshy palate - red cherries, spice and sweet herbs. This palate reflects the fact that 2013 was a good to very good vintage in Barolo. Great length at the finish. The first of 3 from my cellar. — 3 months ago

More in alignment with WS review: “Cherry, raspberry, violet and mineral aromas and flavors mark this perfumed red. Racy and elegant, with defining acidity. Persistent finish. Drink now through 2028. 3,300 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.” — Bruce Sanderson… Versus WE: “Like a garden at twilight, this Barbera lifts with violets and lavender before diving into a pool of plums and boysenberries, kissed by fresh herbs. The palate mirrors this purple-fruited dance with juicy precision. Give it a slight chill and watch it become the life of the party.” — Jeff Porter. — 4 months ago
