What a treat! Full-bodied. Black cherries, blueberries, currants, chocolate, with a fabulous finish! — 2 months ago
Pop and pour. A splendid deep dark magenta color. On the nose: cherry, smokey bell pepper, cedar, cinnamon, vanilla oak, floral. Taste: chalky, smooth, brambly black cherry, cedar, spice, currants, earth....finishes long and precise. YUM! — 3 months ago
Fragrance of black cherry and spice. Carries over to the palate. Smooth at 8 years old though not overly complex. What you would expect of a fine Napa Cab in this timeframe. September 2025 — 2 months ago
Could be a 9.2 but I had it at a steakhouse and the Cali Cab - Filet combo makes all’s those wines taste better. Even without the 2+2=5 taste combo was still smooth, darkly fruited, and great. — 2 months ago
Delicious wine. Always a favorite. — 3 months ago
Good but not as great as the previous one. — 5 months ago
2 hour decant(little fine sediment). A striking dark purplish magenta color. On the nose: very aeromatic notes with perfumed dark berries, forest floor, spearment, smoked meat, truffles. Taste: silky, layered, plush wine with dark plum/cherry, milk chocolate, smokey cedar, earth, and a peppery graphite medium plus dry finish. YUM! Drinks well with the decant and time to go. — 2 months ago
2023 vintage. Medium heavy body. Brooding and petulant while hiding behind a forced smile. This has power and plenty of alcohol but camouflaged tannins. Oodles of blue fruit with hints of milk chocolate-covered cherry, hot maple syrup, ripe plum and graphite. 08.22.25. — 2 months ago

Rob Brobst III
2013 Ontogeny Proprietary Red is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, coming from some of Russell Bevan’s favorite vineyard sources – Sugarloaf Mountain, Two Dogs, Tin Box and Tench. Quite flavorful, it is exhibiting slightly more new oak than some of the other cuvées, but is still sexy and opulent, with voluptuous texture, low acidity, and oodles of juicy, succulent black and red fruits, licorice, underbrush and a touch of vanillin. An already irresistible beauty, it can be drunk over the next 20 years. — a month ago
