Presented double-blind at dinner. The wine pours a deep garnet with a near opaque core and a slightly orange rim with considerable variation; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and desiccated fruit: black currants, blackberries, plum, pipe tobacco, capsicum, pencil shavings, a touch leather, organic earth and a mix of dried herbs and some fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Really tasty stuff.

Initial conclusions: this is an old wine, likely 30-40 years old. That being said, it’s still very distinguishable as it’s showing varietal characteristics. This could be Cabernet Sauvignon (or a blend thereof), Cabernet Franc (or a blend thereof), or Merlot (or a blend thereof). I can see this being Napa because the fruit is still showing some generosity. But there’s a lot of non-fruits there too. Regardless, this was giving Left Bank vibes so I could also see this being Bordeaux from a great vintage like 1982. And that’s my call, Cabernet Sauvignon-blend from France, Bordeaux, Saint-Estèphe, from a classified growth like Calon-Ségur. Shucks. But I’m not mad about my choice! Old Opus One’s are tricky to differentiate. Drinking very well right now but this will live well past 2035. — a month ago

Tasted blind. Again medium deep ruby with medium wide garnet rim . Again slightly aloof , showing a touch of herbaceous blackcurrant , mineral and slate notes . Probably the most closed of all coming back . Quite deep and rich again , mineral , blackcurrant, wet stones . Muscular tannins and balanced acidity , deep with a slight herbaceous touch on the decent finish . Latour ? Compared with the rest this is slightly pedestrian, even though it is still an excellent wine it’s not as thrilling as its Pauillac stablemates Lafite or Mouton. Perhaps needs even more time , come back in 5 years and will last well a further 10 -15. — 7 days ago

Extraordinary mousse, incredibly fine and integrated, with deep yeast, intense salinity and gorgeous freshness. The palate is dense, sappy and energetic, with superb acidity, seamless texture and an extraordinarily long saline, yeasty finish. Sometimes no other wine will do for me than old-style (13% ABV) Bordeaux, and this lovely medium-aged Pauillac absolutely fills the bill, redfruits, structured but not really tannic, great acid balance really lifts the fruit, not a blockbuster, but very fine nonetheless, I could drink a lot of this!! — 3 years ago

Tasted Blind. Maybe slightly lighter appearance than 1 , with ruby centre and lighter garnet rim . Slightly more floral in tone, touches of spice and elegant redder fruits . The most aromatic of all coming back to this . On the palate this has lovely red fruits , very precise with a juicier mouthfeel , velvety tannins and refreshing acidity . Long very well balanced finish, slightly saline hint. Long and very pretty . First 10-point bottle I’ve had of the 2023 Abbaye de Morgeot, and just extraordinary. What is fascinating is how completely opposite it is from the 2024. They are perfect for entirely different reasons, yet equally perfect, which is exactly why a great domaine is great. This was emotional, beautiful and complete. Tasted blind. Pretty similar to 2 in colour , more garnet core , some ruby with a garnet rim . Slightly more closed on the nose , touch of spice , hickory , then dark fruits , grafite . On the palate this is more mineral and intense , with good volume and a ripe layer of dark fruits , quite rich and mouthfilling but with good freshness and length . Lots of cassis and grafite , some cedar , grippy tannins . Dense and quite powerful long finish . This has a lovely spiced character with an earthy finish . Still pretty young , needs a little more time , but great balance . Wait Another 5 -8 years and will last well a further 10-15. I did not put this as HB in the 30 minutes we had to study the wines , the sweet spice took me over to Mouton , with more time it was obviously so different , so I kicked myself when it was revealed as HB. This is LV14. No dosage. A year and a half since my last btl, roughly. On the nose: melon, with creme fraiche, basil, meyer lemon, meyer lemon zest. Not sure I would believe BdB blind. Color suggests skin contact...almost soft peach. On the palate: aggressive mousse at first...maybe needed a decant. Lovely acidity, lime, bitter citrus, a touch short, and very juicy on the dense and tangy finish. A stunner. — 5 years ago
