THE sleeper in the Buffet lineup. I adore this wine as it’s the most lacey, elegant, ephemeral 1er cru not just in Volnay but in all of Burgundy. It’s just gorgeous. Nose leaps out of the glass with unreal cherries and florals. Almost cherries in a demi glace. So provocative. It’s so expansive like when you’ve squeezed a flower petal or a piece of marijuana and you get the pungent aroma. That’s just the resting state for this nose. Huge spice. I could smell this all day. Wow. 9.7 nose. The palate is just silk. This is the silkiest 1er cru ever. Hauntingly elegant and with the most energetic yet sweet fruit. Gorgeous, pitter patter tannins and sweet fruit that is so pure and so delicate. The most gorgeous wine and has loads of early charm. I knew this was going to be a star in 23. Wow. — 2 months ago
v22. Very good! Orange blossom and vanilla nose. Round tropical and lime fruit. Clean, slightly oaky finish. — 5 months ago
Tasted blind nailed Meursault! (2019 village from high quality producer to be exact). 2020 village Roulot Meursault needs time to flesh out and a good decant but it’s a killer village wine to no surprise from the master JMR. — 19 days ago

Feel like every time I want to drink Mathiasson its more expensive than the last time. I love what they’re about in Napa so don’t mind supporting them. This is so good. — 2 months ago
village level with great tension, a bit high acid — a month ago
Quite light garnet core with a wide watery garnet rim . Quite reserved and closed at first , with light red currant , herbal wild strawberry , ripe red cherry and earthy , dry spices . On the palate this has quite a rustic , tannic profile for a simples Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits , with quite fresh acidity but has enough cool strawberry , raspberry , red currant and earthy sous bois to fill out on the palate . Balanced alcohol and reasonable length , with a hint of bitterness . Pretty old school and rustic in style but certainly individual and has personality. In this vintage at least there is just enough mid palate to deal with the extended aging in oak . This does need a little time to open up and requires food and arguably needs a little more time , though I do worry that with more time in bottle it will loose the little fruit that it still has . So drink now and over the next 5 years or so . Overall probably the best red I have had from Chateau de Villars Fontaine . — 4 months ago
