Domaine De Saint Lannes

Château Canon-la-Gaffelière

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Still a baby but WOW! Blend of Merlot (49%), Cabernet Franc (39%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (12%). Intensely aromatic featuring currants, tobacco dried purple flowers, fresh soil and a very pleasant green note. Deep black fruit on the pallet with hints of dark chocolate, roasted nuts, Asian spices and crushed stones. A touch of saline on the lengthy finish. Beautiful dusty texture. Medium-plus body. Nicely polished and well integrated. Powerful but elegant at the same time. Incredible! — 4 days ago

Château Monbousquet

Saint-Emilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Blend of Merlot (60%), Cabernet Franc (30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). Dark garnet color. Aromas and flavors of black currant, blackberries, dark chocolate, beef jerky, black tea, figs and tobacco. Kevin Zraly mentioned Hoisin Sauce in his review! Mineral and wet gravel on the finish. Full bodied but quite pure and elegant. Excellent structure and length. Fabulous! — 4 days ago

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

This wine was love at first sniff. Medium garnet in color, a mesmerizing perfume of blackcurrant, ripe blackberry, sweet spice, wet tea bag and cigar box introduces the 2001 Château Ducru Beaucaillou. What an elegant, drop-dead gorgeous nose! Medium bodied and silky textured, the wine shines with remarkable balance and wonderful complexity. Drink now until 2030. — 5 days ago

Château Langoa Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

A WOW wine. Extraordinary Bordeaux power and intensity at a reasonable price. The strong leather, earth, and licorice flavors and smooth tannins in the finish are perfectly balanced. A great buy. — 13 days ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

I remember this wine being quite fruit forward upon release. Almost 20 years later, it opens with notes of dried and slightly cooked red fruits, leather, tobacco, earth and a dash of vanilla. On the palate, the 2001 Château Cos d'Estournel has a surprisingly sweet flavor profile and good concentration. The tannins are well integrated and take a backseat to the fruit. Although miles away from the quality level of recent vintages, the 2001 is still quite enjoyable. Drink now. — 5 days ago

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

Medium garnet, the 2001 Château Léoville Barton is an archetype for cooler vintage, aristocratic left bank Bordeaux. It offers well-defined aromas of blackcurrant, dried black cherry, wood spice, mushroom, forest floor, tobacco and gravel. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is dominated by a massive tannin structure, excellent fruit concentration and a long, persistent finish. Drink now until 2030. — 5 days ago

Domaine Dujac

Morey Saint Denis Pinot Noir 2020

Shimmering medium ruby, the 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Village from Domaine Dujac shows well at the moment, mingling aromas of red and black cherries, blackberries, earth and a dash of cumin spice. Medium-bodied with a creamy texture and good depth, this elegant Village finishes surprisingly long and will surely benefit from extended bottle aging. Drink from 2024 until 2045. — 10 days ago

Château Ausone

Saint Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

Wafts of dried red fruits, pencil shaving, dried blackberry, blueberry, cigar box and a dash of black truffle emerge from the glass. Deep garnet, the 2001 Château Ausone plays in its own league within the 2001 Bordeaux vintage. Full-bodied and expanding like a kaleidoscope, the palate is characterized by fine-grained, pixelated tannins, high fruit concentration and a long-lasting, majestic finish. This is serious stuff. Drink now until 2040. — 5 days ago

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1988

Dark rubi robe and no sign of the age, nose of tobacco, blackcurrant, roasted pepper notes and a hint of flowers. Not a blockbuster like the 89 but this is elegant, complex, and oh soo good. No rush but probably no more development. Excellent bottle of classical claret. — 13 days ago

And you’re right as S-E has an undeserved reputation for rustic wines. Nothing further from the truth.
