From a beat up bottle this was a classic Leoville. The 88s have amazing aromatics but some can be tannic . This opened up nicely after decanting and was a lovely vineyard driven Bordeaux .

Overpowered in the flight and just killed by the 85 and 89. The fruit is waning and the finished is clipped and sharp.

1988 vintage. Medium ruby hue. Pencil shaving, dried violet petals, pot pouri, very expressive and complex. Wonderful. On the palate, very balanced and pure. Medium body and tannins - very integrated and fine. Good concentration and long finish. Hints of liquorice. Slight drying on finish. But basically at its peak. Excellent, even outstanding. With 2 hours in decanter, the wine is improving! The finish is improving too!

In great shape, with verve, soft edges and bright mineral and red fruit. Fun tough to sushi. Still a baby!

It's good but it's not great and the 1988 should but profound.

Starting to get a little tired. Very tasty, but may be time to drink up.
