M & I’s contribution for OTBN was the 2009 Ridge Monte Bello. I love everything Ridge, and this was my first time trying the Monte Bello. A true classic. This wine was more earth and rustic than the Staglin. Winemaker notes best describe this wine as deep ruby/purple; blackberry, red current, ripe cassis, cedar, crushed rock minerality, toasted oak; Full-body, rich tannin structure, dark berry fruit, firm acid, wet-stone, juniper, forest floor, cola, and lingering exotic oak spice finish. — 25 days ago
Grassy but also slightly oaky nose, crisp apple, slight hints of yeast or baked goods, maybe brioche. Color is pale, almost clear green, with golden highlights blended in and out, depending on the angle. Acidity is still zingy with a tartness that tightens long after the sip is swallowed. Beautifully balanced, vegetal finish, that lingers up to a slight mineral freshness. Awesome, but could for sure benefit from some aging to see what’s possible. Beautiful Chardonnay, will give Chablis a run for its money any day. — 20 days ago
My last Salvador btl. Sad this vineyard is gone, it’s always made such enjoyable wine. There’s a lot of balance here, lifted perfume, well juiced fruit, suave tannins. — 10 days ago
