Pale golden yellow color with aromas of stone fruit, citrus and herb spice notes. On the palate flavors of apple with slight citrus and honey notes and herb spice. Good acidity, balance and structure, medium+ finish ending with earthy mineral character. Very Nice! — 2 months ago
I sold Barolos and Barbarescos from this winery with the first importer I worked for back in the early 80s. It’s been in the decanter about an hour, and though the lightish color shows maturity, some fruit is emerging g to join with the intense mahogany furniture/old library scents. Incense too, along with faded rose petals. Very classic. In the mouth, it’s powerful and somewhat austere. Not a fruity wine. Still a fair amount of tannin present. The austerity and power will pair nicely with the braised oxtails (coda alla vaccinara) that are almost ready. — 20 days ago
Upon decanting for 30 minutes the nose is full of ripe cherry, tobacco & a bit of mint.
On the palate the nose is verified with good structure and soft tannin. it is medium bodied, delightful wine that is fully mature and has a long full finish. Drink it now. It is a lovely classic barolo. — a month ago

Oldest Benanti vineyard. Planted in 1910. I grafted pre-phloxerra. 90% Nero mascalese and 10% nerelo cappucio. — 8 days ago
Austere was the first word that came to mind and then I saw it in @Tom Casagrande’s review as well (though of the previous vintage). Overall I still enjoyed it, but you have to be in the mood for a crisp, somewhat bitter, reclusive wine. — a month ago

Believe it or not, Fratelli Alessandria was the very first to commercially offer a single expression of Monvigliero (1978); three years before Comm. G.B. Burlotto. That being said, both have played a role in defining the style of this, most famous MGA in Verduno.
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2010 Monvigliero pours a bright garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes of ripe and tart, mostly red and some dark fruit: wild forest strawberries, mixed brambles, Morello cherry, pomegranate, truffle, roses, dried green herbs, licorice, some tar, forest floor and dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and slightly savory. I think this is in a really lovely spot and anyone who has multiples should try one during this phase of its evolution. That being said, this has a long life ahead. Drink now with patience through 2050+ — a month ago
