Krupp Brothers

Synchrony Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2016

Inky in color with a reddish/ brick rim.

Beautiful nose of black currants, black cherries, cooked plums, sweet raspberries, tobacco, light cedar, licorice, chocolates, light alcohol, mediterranean spices, earth, black pepper and herbs.

Full-bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, currants, plums, cooked cherries, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, peppercorn, tobacco leaf, mediterranean spices and dark coffee.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Franc based Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley. Fruit forward and rich. Complex with a nice mouthfeel, tangy and entertaining.

Feels like a Napa Merlot, and a little hot at the back of the throat.

Needed 4 hours of airtime to open up, so be patient.

I've had a few vintages of this wine, and it is definitely better with age.

This 10 year old Single Vineyard is drinking very well now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Showing good structure, and good by itself or with food.

A blend of 66% Cabernet Franc, 26% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Sangiovese and 1% Petit Verdot.

15.9% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$150.

An excellent example Cabernet from Rutherford. This is the 2021 vintage and it’s absolutely beautiful. — 4 months ago

Château Bel-Air (Domaines Henri Martin)

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 1988

Had zero expectations for this wine at a party featuring lost bottles from your cellar. It was like a raspberry preserve that you canned 10 years ago and still has the essence of that years growing season. An unexpected joy. — 5 months ago

Solid wine. Comes across very fruity and smooth. Complexity and tannins are faded. Really nice fruit. Highly enjoyable with food or on its own. — a year ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1966

Delectable Wine
9.2

One encounter with an ex-château bottle suggested that the 1966 Lynch-Bages is not to be overlooked. Deep in color, it has a tempting nose that unfolds gradually in the glass, graphite and cedar commingling with crushed stone and red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm entry, very cedary with touches of desiccated orange peel. It's a bit conservative on the finish, though that is a leitmotif of the 1966 vintage. Well-preserved bottles should still be giving pleasure. Tasted at the Lynch Bages vertical. (Neal Martin, Vinous, July 2023) — 3 years ago

Jessie James Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023

Lyle Fass
9.5

A profoundly backward Jessie James that took a strange, winding path over several days. Initially reduced and giving maybe 10%, with matchstick, damson, sour and mid-season cherry, mineral and very little aromatic expression. The palate was completely discombobulated at first, but the material was obvious: beautiful velvety tannins, tiny-berry fruit intensity, tremendous depth and an extraordinarily long, persistent finish. After about ninety minutes it briefly opened into something spectacular, with deep, voluminous perfume, sweet and sour cherries, mossy minerality and exotic spice, the nose easily operating at a 9.7 level. Then it closed again, the tannins took over and both nose and palate retreated. Two days later it is much more composed, silky and elegant, with pure red fruit, sour cherry and beautifully refined tannins. Very good, serious and clearly built to age, but not at the level of the great 2021 or 2022 Jessie James. — a month ago

Kay Brothers

Amery Vineyard Block 6 Shiraz 2012

Dense Ruby with a Crimson rim. Aromas of red and black berries, chocolate, and smoked meat. Full bodied and muscular. From a single vineyard in McLaren Vale which was planted 124 years ago. Silky tannins. A great red on a cold night in Winter. Love the old fashioned label which probably hasn’t changed in 100 years showing the two Kay Brothers. Hope to have the patience to drink the last bottle in say 2028 to 2030. — 2 months ago

Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

2015 vintage. Light-medium/medium body. Elegant with just the right mix of primary and secondary characteristics currently. Some earthy tones, some pretty tones. Picked up 3 cases for an affordable ($35 a btl) domestic Cab with a decade of age on it. 2013 effort (not reviewed) had a slightly, off-putting, prunish note on the finish that wouldn’t leave the party so passed on it and went with this instead. 3.11.26. — 6 months ago

Wow. An insane wine.

Nose: sick elegant spice. Almost elegantly oily.

Palate: so dense. Candied pink grapefruit. Mineral. Expansive. Long. Saline. Juicy. Clingy.

Gratitude Olsen Brothers Vineyard Red Blend 2020

Pop n pour. Given that it’s 70% Mourvèdre, the color is surprisingly light. (There’s 25% Grenache and 5% Syrah too.) Medium color saturation. Inviting nose of a melange of ripe berries and a smoky embers note. Crushed rock behind that. Soft and intensely flavored in the mouth, with the berries less prominent, jousting with dark earthy and pleasantly vegetal notes. Soft but balanced acids and tannins almost silky. Really nice. Terrific value at $25 from WTSO. — 9 months ago
