Series M Red Blend 2014

Cheers to Bordeaux-style blends from South Africa! 🇿🇦

This particular beauty comprises 39% Merlot, 36% Malbec, and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and hails from the region of Paarl W.O. in the Coastal Region of the Western Cape of South Africa. It was hand-harvested from low-yielding vines and aged for 20 months in French oak (3% new).

The nose opens with a bouquet of black cherry preserves, baked plum, crème de cassis, blackberry bramble, fresh mint, black licorice, violet, nutmeg, pencil shavings, cinnamon, cedar, leather, and cured meat. On the palate this wine is dry, with medium acidity, high alcohol, medium(+) body. The tannins are present but fine-grained and velveteen. Flavors on the palate are largely consistent with the nose, but offer more earthy, balanced, and savory elements. The finish is long. 😍😍😍

The producer - Vilafonté - represents a joint winemaking venture between American and South African vintners, including the distinguished and pioneering Zelma Long.👏👏👏👏

Here’s to exploring the world through amazingly delicious wine 🍷 🍷🙌🙌

"La Mordorée" Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2007

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish/brick rim.

Dry on the palate and medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Showing blueberries, black plums, cooked cherries, oak, light vanilla, olives, spices, tobacco, light barnyard, vegetables, herbs, dark chocolates and coffee.

This 14 year old is nicely balanced, with a nice mouthfeel. I really enjoyed the nose here.

Needed 3 hours of airtime to open up properly, but was good right out of the bottle too.

Thank you Scott for sharing.

Drinking nicely now and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

100% Syrah grapes were hand-picked from 60 year old Vines. Aged for 16 months in Oak barrels.

13% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$120.

Tasting with Chapoutier. Almond, marzipan, pineapple, white flowers on the nose. So young that Michel said that it’s more green almond dominated for now - as it ages will be more roasted almond. Good stuff but way too young. — 11 hours ago

Les Arènes Cornas Syrah 2018

The 2018 vintage, still young but with all the signs of a good bottle to cellar for a few more years; enjoyable now though, especially after proper aeration. Powerful Syrah at the moment. — 11 days ago

Les Granilites Saint-Joseph Blanc Marsanne 2011

If you want a “soft” or “smooth” wine, this is it. On the palate it is silky. Nose right out of the bottle and in the glass is wonderful but fades pretty quick. Finish you could say is short but I think it’s there just not intense. — 14 days ago
