Grapes Of Roth

Allegrini

Palazzo della Torre Veronese Corvina Blend 2018

I bought and drank a fair amount of Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre back in the late 1990s, and always enjoyed them. First time in the past 20 years, this seems a little softer and polished, a little lower ABV (13.5 vs. 14+ in earlier vintages), this is vinified using conventional fermentation as well as some ripasso fermentation (think Amarone drying grapes on straw mats), and has some very nice complexity and length, very nice!! — a day ago

Shaw and Smith

Tolpuddle Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

See previous notes - sadly my last bottle of the 2013. A wonderful Pinot Noir. Along with the red fruits and lovely perfume a distinctly earthy note. The medium bodied palate is polished, fine and long. Owned and made by Shaw + Smith who are based in the Adelaide Hills and transport the grapes from this exceptional terroir in the Coal River Tasmania in refrigerated containers to be vinified in the Adelaide Hills. Quite a daunting exercise but on the evidence of this wine - an absolute triumph. — a year ago

Roccolo Grassi

Valpolicella Superiore Corvina Blend 2016

Clearly aimed to be a more extracted, fuller style. Not sure if it’s just some proportion of dried grapes or something else. It’s very good, and at its peak. Deep umami nose has dark, dried berries, leather, moist earth, dark chocolate. Dark fruit and dark chocolate on the palate, with soft, but prominent and drying tannins bearing forth a terra cotta tile finish. Again, it’s very good, I’m just a bit annoyed that it kind of hides where it’s from. — 5 months ago

Blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon & 6% Petit Verdot, BV grapes were first planted back in 1900, by founder Georges de Latour. Outstanding! Deep dense Ruby with complex berry fruit aromas wrapped in toasty spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, cherry and sweet plum with licorice and cacao, adding cedar and tobacco notes. Soft velvet tannins, still young, long finish, well integrated and nicely balanced, a joy to drink. Will age a long time. A Wow factor wine!! — 2 years ago

On the palate flavors of peach and melon with lemon citrus and savory notes. Medium+ finish, lively acidity, ending with fruit, toasty oak and minerality. Nice! — 5 months ago

Agricola Querciabella

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2016

First impressions - a bit oaky. It’s a pity when some Tuscan producers prefer to use French Barriques instead of traditional large Slovenian Bottis, as is tradition and let the grapes do the talking. Mid Ruby in colour - dried earthy cherries. You can taste the extra sunshine in this vintage. Medium plus tannins to finish off. A killer of a food wine - went well with pasta. A little astringent after a few hours. Had another bottle on 16th November. Just a handy quaffer. — 7 months ago
