Domaine Saint Aymé

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Still holding back after 3 hrs in the decanter. The wine’s concentration and tannic structure promise a wonderful future. At the age of 20, this still feels primary and even hibernating… 😳
I’ll let my remaining bottles sleep for 3-5 years.

A little too plummy for me, orange zest. Plenty of whole cluster notes. Unwound and disjointed at this point of its evolution. My least favorite of the 24‘ line up. 175$. — 25 days ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2002

Intoxicating nose. Tres Bordeaux, complex, high bore, intriguing. On the palate, this is youthful, red fruited, tart and fresh.
Drinking lovely at the moment. Still has some future.

This is such a great wine. Quiet. Understated. Bookish. Have been looking for another case or two for the resto but just not in the gray market currently. Like a shark always moving and looking for it, the 1996 Pichon-Lalande and 2018 Larcis Ducasse.

Château Gruaud Larose

Sarget de Gruaud Larose Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

2019 vintage. A blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot. First year of conversion to organic viticulture. The second wines of the big boys have never been better, and this is another good example. Raspberry, cassis, a hint of pencil shavings, and a little smokiness. Good concentration, charm, complexity and length. Good value for an appellation where you don't go shopping with 10 euro, but that rarely disappoints. A lovely introduction to the grand vin at one third of the price. Abv. 13,5%.. Eric Boissenot consults. — a month ago

Château Meyney

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2019

Initially, this was a bit closed with fruit notes dominating, but after an hour long decant it opened up nicely. The nose has mostly cassis and herbal flavors, and on the palate, cassis, tobacco, bay leaf, dried sage, dark chocolate, and graphite notes come through nicely. Has good acidity, and tannins are well integrated. Super tasty and paired well with rosemary and thyme roasted rack of lamb with potatoes and eggplant. — 14 days ago

@Doug Powers this was my first. Really enjoyed it and glad I had it at a good spot in its drinking window. I’ve had some bad luck with young bordeauxs that were disappointing.

Château Beychevelle

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

2000 vintage. This is one of the better BDX 2000's I've had in the last decade. Opened not decanted. Tasted 1 hour and 4 hours after opening. Feminine body, masculine flavors. Plenty of stuffing and instructive markers laid down along the palate pathway. With apologies to Robert Zimmerman, you ain't going nowhere. 10.2.26. — a month ago

Château Pavie

Saint-Èmilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

2003 vintage. *Full disclosure* Not the biggest Pavie fan as I've consistently found it underwhelming for the commanding pricing and eternally in need of yet "another hour" in a decanter. Great fill and opened with a Durand but feel that the cork (in great shape) would have come out decently easy with a standard wine key. Given my issues with Pavie in the past, brought over two decanters so as to agitate the wine between them four times. Initial pass, good amount of sediment with the vast majority of it caked onto the sides of the bottle. Yay! Great boysenberry/raspberry nose noted during the first decant. Tasted after two hours. Medium body. Some earth, the aforementioned berries and hints of rich chocolate cake, including frosting, on the scene. Despite all the lavished attention and fuss, still suspect this would show better twelve hours later at breakfast with waffles and Count Chocula cereal. High-maintenance for the bean-counters. 9.26.26. — a month ago

Agreement on Pavie underwhelming for the price point. Not that it is bad. It. Just never enjoyed it that much compared to other of its peers at the same price point or less.
