Needs a decant. Youthful — 2 months ago
Time! Must give this wine time! It is so tight straight from the bottle that judging it then is unfair. After hours it opens into a beautiful Sangiovese: cherry, tobacco, and violets. — 6 days ago
Nice fragrance. Medium Tannins and acidity. Dry but fruit still apparent, especially after exposure to air. March 2024. — 12 days ago
Believe it or not, in the early 1970’s there were less than a handful productive wineries in the Radda UGA; Castello di Volpaia was one of those. Radda was simply remote and difficult to get to. However, times have changed and today, there are more than 40 active wineries! Volpaia is somewhat unique in that its vineyards are some of the highest elevation in the entire Chianti Classico zone.
Popped and poured, the 2021 “Chianti Classico” pours a light ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with light notes of cherry, orange pith, dried green herbs and earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. If Radda has a reputation for more elegant wines, then Volpaia is a leading example. While it’s more “reserved” than many others, there is substance and has a story to be shared. Drink now with some patience but I think this will be even more enjoyable in the next 5-10 years. — a month ago
Medium bodied. Bing cherries. A little bit of fruit rollup (i.e fruit leather). Light acid. Celebrating my graduation from rocket training! — 8 days ago
Quite deep ruby centre with quite thin garnet rim . Pretty young looking appearance . On the nose there are some cassis , raspberry , with touches of vanilla, dry spices , cedar and mint. On the palate some sweet cassis , raspberry , cherry , grafite , ground coffee, with the vanilla and spice notes of the nose . Balanced acidity with slightly drying tannins. Ok length with a tobacco and coffee tinged finish. Needed a little time to come together and food certainly helped also . This is probably at peak now so I would drink from now over the next 5 -8 years or so . — 2 months ago

Surprisingly dark on the nose with leather, turned earth, undergrowth, some roast… sun dried tomatoes. After a while a fresh orange zest & flowery note emerges to add contrast. Barely any cherry or red fruit. Dumb phase? Queer bottle? And yet - intriguing!
On the palate nicely structured and with fresh acidity. Love the quality of tannins - fine, juicy yet firm. Savoury, just a touch rustic, loads of umami flavour here.
Def. a food wine, and a very nice one, too!
Having this with some pasta, but this begs for a Bisteca Fiorentina! — 19 days ago
