N: I smell both American and French barrels, dark fruits, plums, Maraschino Cherries, wood spice,
Like it wants to be old. Tobacco, sweeter tarry notes.
P: Nice acidity and tannins in balance, med-full on the palate, black cherry, baking spice, fills the mouth.
Like an old/new word cross. Pretty well done. Great qpr in PA. at $12.99. A bargain.
I splashed it out for a half hour.
If they got rid of the hype sticker, I’d probably think higher of it. — 3 years ago
Very rich dark fruit oriented, bold like a Cali cab. Got some graciano in it. — 3 years ago
...San Genaro feast in Seattle. This I liked. As good as any Muga I’ve tasted. Would definitely recommend... — 5 years ago

Ok it is finally here - the wine nerd herd 5 year reunion has started - in 2016 - the herd met in NYC - there were amazing bonds and friendships developed and are intact to this day and growing
Initially there was @Carl Fischer @Ron R @Joe Lucca @David L well as myself @Mike R and one other who had such a blast we have decided to this get together as a herd frequently and for most part we have been United and strong even doing zoom tastings whenever
Not long after the initial conclave in 2016 we traveled and expanded to include @Bill Bender @Shawn R @Eric L. and a true foundation of youth and knowledge @Shay A we have been to Palm Beach, Raleigh, San Diego, San Antonio, Des Moines, Paso Robles and now back to the starting place - NYC - 5 years later
Get ready New York as the herd is running hard and with purpose in the city that never sleeps
The picture / posting are two tune up tastings last Saturday with locals in Raleigh as I need practice a) red wines below 50 and b) red wines above 100
Standout to me was the Muga in the less than 50 and in the over 100 - all were good but Paul Hobbs, myriad, switchback ridge, Pulido walker
Of course the krug and aubert were good but maybe not able to keep up
The carnival of love and Don Melchor were delicious as well but were not equivalent to the Napa cabs that are all world class vineyards and winemakers
Again I say all this to say training is over and let the games begin in NYC as we have landed
Thank you @Ron R and @Carl Fischer for hosting the herd and I am stoked

Got an A- from James Suckling. I hope we have a similar grading curve. Color is lovely. Like blood in the veins. Smells nice. Rosewater, cherry juice and fresh cut firewood. Flavors are luscious and juicy with just a hint of smoke and oak. Classic Rioja. Balanced and deluscious. I’d agree James. 90 or even 91% for this pupil. — 4 years ago
Light vanilla and floral on the nose. Medium body. Mineral and smooth stone fruit. Would be great with salmon or lobster.(Rioja Seminar and Tasting, presented by Robin Kelleys O'Connor, Certified Wine Educator) — 7 years ago
The absolute best rosé of 2016 (next to muga) — 7 years ago

NYC... Fellow Son of Xavier and NYC real estate Scion.... Landmarc in the Time Warner Center... As good as MUGA... — 8 years ago
Old world with touch more fruit. Paid $20, fantastic at that point. Very similar in style to Muga Reserva, a favorite. — 9 years ago
" with 90 points from Wine Enthusiast and a gold medal from Mundus Vini, this limited edition 2016 combines ancient tradition and ultra modern technique. The classic rioja flavors are there - red and black cherry, prune and tobacco. Plus 24 months in oak give it a spicy vanilla finish." — 2 years ago
Off the truck into the freezer & into the glass. Buy a case if you can find it.
K&L and
Winery notes, Based in the Rioja Alta village of Badarán, Martínez Alesanco is a truly original bodega producing tasty, characterful wine for laughably low prices. They grow all their own grapes in their home village of Badarán, one of the coldest zones of Rioja Alta. The vineyards are closer to the Sierra de la Demanda mountains, a range whose elevation and visible snow covered peaks are even more dramatic than the Sierra Cantabria range to the north. Martínez Alesanco's Rosado is made from Garnacha and white Viura grapes in a typical "clarete" style for which this river valley is justly famous (the vineyards that Muga sources for their popular rosé are not too far away). Bright red berries, juicy blood orange and ripe citrus fruit combine to produce this mouthwatering, delicious rosé. You simply must try this one. — 3 years ago
Deep ruby, stewed red fruits, white and black pepper, clove, herbaceous, some vegies. Medium + tannins, high alcohol, full bodied, medium acidity. Medium finish. Very nice. On to an older competitor...
Please read my subsequent notes in the Muga Prado Enea for more context.
@Antonio Galloni any thoughts?

I am loving this Rosada from Spain! Full of red berries, kiwis, nectarine, wet river rock and herbs which pop on a nice long finish! Wonderful viscosity..looks like a Rosè but performs as a red. — 2 years ago
