Delicate strawberry nose. Some smoke, some gunpowder, mid to early season cherries and very fragrant. Very classic Very 21. Floral. Just an all star nose. 9.5. Very Pinot. Elegant, supple, and tangy. Some serious classic 21 structure little bit closed very fine tannin. really reminds me of an Alto Piemonte wine. it’s on its way to developing some mid palette sweetness and the tannins can sweeten out a bit. I think this has great upside right now. It’s got that typical 21 kind of tightness out of the bottle. but with air, I expect this to sweeten out. It’s maintaining its elegance while also being incredibly juicy. — 9 months ago

Nose is all mid season red cherries, cherry flower and so so pure. Mulberry, cranberry bog and so much more. Lipstick like intensity and just so focused and clear. Insane nose. Unreal limestone and depth but also it’s like it’s vibrating on its own plain. Wow what a palate. Juicy and structured with just silly good cherry fruit of the early to mid season style and unreal clarity, focus and linearity. Unreal concentration and depth. So stunning and like a squeegee on the palate. Now some violets on the nose and unreal concentration and sorry but light and ethereal. Juicy and compact with perfect balance and stunning Nebbiolo sweetness. Velvety and sweet tannins. Long. Drinking so well now. Lots of spices in the midpalate and the finish. Boussey killed 19. All the wines. Gorgeous cherry. Mid season and just perfect ripeness. Some spice and an intense minerality. The purity and vividness of the fruit cannot be contained. Fall is here and it’s the season I love to drink port. Dow, producing Ports for over 2 centuries. One of the first to establish its own vineyards, acquiring Senhora da Ribeira, in the remote Upper Douro, in 1890 & Bomfim, in the heart of Alto Douro, in 1896. Aromas of ripe fruits, fragrant spices and sweet notes. On the palate flavors of candied apple and jammy blackberries with cacao and honey. Firm dusty tannins, good balance, long finish. Perfect now. Smoking nose of bright tangy mid to late season red cherries. Ethereal, confectionary and gorgeous. Really bright and lifted. Expansive and deeply aromatic. Layered and full of nuance. Really terrific nose. 9.6. Just stunning. Palate is sweet, silky, gamey and just flat out gorgeous with a very expressive hit of delicate and elegant minerality. This is mindblowing. Did not expect this to be that great. Beautiful light and translucent color as well. Such fine tannins. Hit of licorice develops on the nose. Really wonderful sweetness but also terrific depth and such finesse. Usually Beaune is more bigger and brawny but this one. Blind I’d say Volnay. Very impressive. — 4 years ago

Really expansive and so crystalline as 19 can be. So opulent in the mid palate but also allied with terrific energy and freshness. What a drop dead stunningly profound wine. Just so brilliant. Nose is all elite plum, black raspberry, mid season cherries, sour cherries, black cherries and lovely tree bark and a hint of herbals. So complex and so pure. There is a delicacy and elegance to the nose that is stunning. Also some citrus top notes. Palate is at once round and but also has terrific energy from what seems like stem inclusion. So nimble and pure. This has serious structure and the fruit in the palate is sweet but also high toned and cooling and one can tell this is a cool vintage wine. What an epic finish and such refined tannins. This also needs to breathe. And it will improve and wow what a wine. Let’s see where it goes. — a year ago

A stunning showing and 16 might be the best vintage ever at Walter. Nose is late season cherries, some framing oak, spice, tobacco, stunning minerality and just endless depth. So floral and complex. I could smell this all day. Smells like elite NSG right now. Palate is just amazing. Ridiculous dark cherry fruit that is so crunchy, fresh and concentrated. Wow this is so precise and succulent. Insane balance and hidden power. What depth and length. Amazing stuff in that it’s so silky and juicy and sweet and the oak is already so well integrated on the palate. This has sexy, velvety tannins and an amazingly long finish. 9.5 now but this will go higher. — 2 years ago

Palate is perfect supple mid season cherries. Flashing cherry spice. Some sweet wood. Gorgeous old rose internal aromatics. What you expect from old Nebbiolo.

2 hours in nose is more gun smoke.

Palate is sweet cherry. Gorgeous. So elegant. So fresh. Interlaced sweet old wood. Wow. What you want.

Day 2 nose is a bit of tomato. Some cold smoke. Still elegant. Savory. Fresh. Grippy. Cherry flower rose. Still good. Long grippy finish. Still has 5-10 years to go. — 3 years ago

Wow this has gotten glorious and turned the corner. Deep ripe mid to late season cherries. Spice. Violets, raspberry cake. The nose is elite and expressive. Wow. Citrus as well. More like tangelo zest. Acid is fierce as this is 2010 and this is amazingly fresh and has lovely sweetness and grip. Perfect balance and terrific purity. Awesome. This is really showing well. What a nose. Spice, ripe and overflowing mid season cherries, pine resin and sap. Wow. Huge sweetness as well. Smells like 1er Cru Côte de Nuits. Stunning. Palate is nervy and engaging with huge mid season semi sweet cherry fruit. Juicy and prickly acids with wonderful juicy and ripe tannins with a citrus twang on the finish. In the zone right now. Amazing nose. Mid to late season very ripe cherries, cranberry bog, white chocolate, and some citrus rind. Gorgeous. Spice and violets as well. Palate is rich and tense at the same time with gorgeous sweet cherry fruit and unreal purity and freshness. Super silky and sweet with great acidity and mineral sweet cherry finish. Now with air there is gorgeous blackberry and black raspberry. Unreal red cherries and spice. Really lifted nose. Palate is much redder than the nose lets on and has really engaging minerality. The 21’s here are masterful. Nose of late season black cherries, late season red cherries, earth, mineral and more. Blueberry and blackberry as well. So deep and expressive. That’s 21! Palate is teeming with energy and juiciness. Sour and red cherries and glorious silky tannins and lovely sweetness. Long and flowy. Needs time but just spectacular. Been two plus years and wow wow wow is this the best bottle yet. Stunning nose of chestnut, soaring minerality, deep mid season cherries but smothered with wet leaves. Also amazing fireplace aromas. The palate is a marvel. Beats the sh*t out of sooooo many Barolo and Barbaresco at much higher price points. Omg the earthy sweetness on this is insanely magical. Perfect balance and elite elite finesse. Insane inner mouth aromas. What velvety texture and insane juiciness. Perfect fruit/tannin delivery balance. Just so so incredibly epic. Not the team’s I wanted to see, so I’ll just stick to the basics. Went well with some A5 coffee crusted New York Strip, the steak 🥩 is so rich you don’t want to waste it on a fruity wine

The 2010 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. The vineyard is situated on deep gravel deposits in the Macau and Ludon villages of the appellation and has 9,600 vines per hectare.

Vinious 93 The 2010 Cantemerle is vigorous and open on the nose, a mixture of red and black fruit with cedar and humidor scents. I admire the focus and detail. The palate is rounded in texture on the entry. This is a plumper, richer, more fruit-driven 2010 with a lush finish on the context of the growing season. You could broach this now, although I would prefer to leave it another three or four years. This is another excellent wine and candidate for most over-performing cru this vintage.
