Poured into a wide bottom decanter about four hours prior to service; enjoyed over the course of our meal. The 1990 pours a garnet color with a translucent core and an orang-ish rim; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and desiccated fruits and truffles for dayzzzzz! There’s dried Morello cherry, red rope licorice, truffle, dried red flowers, the smell of an old cedar chest filled with old leather bound books and a mix of organic and inorganic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and savory. This is showing well at 35 years old! Drink now through 2030. Thanks @Lyle Fass for the assist!

A mixed bag, possibly due to a semi poor ( crumbly) cork. Aged Nebbiolo can sometimes feel to me like Ms Haversham’s preserved room-fascinating how some of it’s spirit has been kept alive, but ultimately too musty to enjoy. Let’s see how next bottle fares.

What a nose. Soy, hoisin, stunning deep cherries, tar, leather, game, feral elements. Chestnuts and dust. So clean. What clarity. Mineral. Soupy cherries. Palate is so Fassy! Fresh as a daisy and so pure. Terrific energy and lovely clearly defined soppy cherry fruit. Long and such goof acid. This is so mature but can last 5-6 more years. Really balanced and engaging. The freshness is off the charts. Just an amazing wine at its apogee.

Update. : cork did crumble and was not as translucent as 2000. Thinking it was off. And after an hour it’s. 9.2 now. Was a 9.5 before it went down to just very good. Don’t age this longer.

Not quite at the level I was hoping. Very pale in the glass. Not corked, but still a bit less than all there. Refined and smooth, decent acid still. Quite tertiary - lots of leather. Would have guessed much older than 1990 honestly.

Not much difference between this & 1989 had alongside. This was brighter & fresher w/less off putting aromas and more cherry fruit. More focused, empty glass was absolutely gorgeous, but the balance between waning tannins & acidity was not quite up to snuff. Pleasant drinker - a novelty.. few final notes: cork split but was saved!, threw decent amount of sediment, shined at 3 hrs in & did not improve Day 2.

A somewhat stunningly beautiful snapshot of evolution in a bottle. Definitely do not wait on this at this point (and no need to decant, but there is a ton of sediment). Pale brick red in the glass. Aromatically very nice, but lost a bit as the night wore on. Quite pure and fresh on the palate with light red cherries, dried red flowers, good acid, long finish. Very fun one to try.

Probably a bit past peak but still pretty tasty. Mature northern Nebbiolo with some fruit left
