Land Of Promise

Evening Land Vineyards

Summum Seven Springs Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

Medium lemon color, aromas of stone and citrus fruits with floral, honey and flinty mineral notes, aged 9 months in Stockinger Pincheons, then 6 months in stainless. On the palate flavors of apple and pear with citrus and floral wrapped in a nutty vanilla spice. Long finish, lively acidity, ending with fruit, toasty oak, spice and savory citrus character. — 10 days ago

Boca Nebbiolo Blend 2017

9.2

Interesting wine. This one is a blend of Nebbiolo and Vespolina grapes. Not every surrounding region allow Vespolina, but Boca does.

The nose is muted. Not showing much. Macerated dark fruits, sandstone & black turned earth.

The body is mucher thicker from the extraction & Vespolina. Medium plus, fine, dark, polished tannins. It shows grapy, dark cherries, blackberries, a plum/raspberry blend, poached strawberries with lift of blueberries hues as it sets. Dark spice w/ some heat, dry soils, dark, muddy earth with clay, dry stones, dry tobacco, leather, dry wood plank, dry herbs, with red flowers with red & pink roses, round acidy with a well made, structured, nicely tensioned, polish finish that land on dry, fine tannins and stones.

This will require 8-10 plus years to flush out.

Château Cantemerle

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

A nice Bordeaux and a bunch of mesquite-grilled lamb chops. This Cantemerle is quite dense and youthful. Color shows almost no sign of age. With air, nose slowly unfurls to show lots of graphite, menthol, tight cassis fruit, underbrush, and crushed rock. Medium bodied, the flavors are tight too, and there is nice concentration, but it’s mostly promise for the future. Tannins are nicely managed and there is good acidity. 9.2+ — 2 years ago

Philip Togni Vineyard

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1990

I usually bring at least one older wine to a favorite BYOB restaurant for NYE dinner. I selected this 33 year old cab and trying to open it the cork crumbled and some came out and some stayed it so decanted through a tea strainer into my take out bottle. I could tell just by the color this wine had promise. Poured about 2 hours later and the color was deep dark red to the edge. Not much on the nose but the taste had a lot of black fruits and a bit of spice and seemed like a young wine. The finish was long and smooth. It was still drink great as we finished the bottle about 2 hours later. Luckily I have another bottle and have to figure out when I’m going to open that one. At Anthony’s in HH — a year ago

Splash decanted this 1993 La Tache and consumed over the next four hours. Aromatically brilliant and loads of promise but still young — a month ago

Château Beauregard

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2020 Beauregard has a well-defined bouquet with raspberry and cranberry fruit, cedar and light pencil box aromas. This fulfills its promise from barrel, while the palate is well balanced with pliant tannins, fresh and saline with a slightly ferrous finish. This is an excellent Beauregard that will give up to 20 years of drinking pleasure. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2023) — 2 years ago
