It is Tuesday night, the night after my first Covid-19 shot. I thought it would be nice to open a 2009 Muga Selección Especial Rioja Reserva. This is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo.
On the nose there a notes of black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, licorice, savory notes, leather and earth.
On the palate I find notes of black cherry, black plum, tomato, black currant, spice, licorice, black pepper, a nice mineral note and earth.
This wine is full bodied with a fleshy velvety mouthfeel, medium+ acidity and medium + fine mouth coating tannins which moves into a long dark fruit savory earthy finish. Definitely a lovely Rioja and in a very good drinking spot right now but still has many years to go. I hope everyone is doing well please still stay safe and healthy. Have a great week going forward. Lemon yellow . Quite restrained and elegant, fine bubbles , white flowers , slightly more yellow fruits , buttered bread , pastry . On the palate , crystallised fruits , ginger , mineral , quite taut mouth feel . Lemon peel , grapefruit, touch of honey . Good acidity and mineral , chalky , steely finish . Still showing quite young , with excellent focus and good length . Drink now and over the next 10 years — 10 months ago
Very linear and primary still but opening up nicely with a rare purity and supple tannins. Good stuff. — 2 years ago

2009 Allemand Horizontal. I absolutely love Allemand’s wines. Always a seamless combination of both elegance and power. Both the Chaillot and Reynard showed perfectly, with the Reynard a bit more concentrated and deep than the Chaillot. Both wines had superb intensity, focus and a wonderful texture with the signature liquid rock, violets, herbs and cassis of Allemand Cornas. Fantastic duo. — 5 years ago

no wine in this class made me really happy...
the Rieslings weren't top class, the rest not specially made for me. — 5 years ago
Sitting on the precipice of primary and tertiary. Still has bright fruit notes with high acidity and just enough tannins that it would still pair well with food. But it also has forest floor, mossy stone, leather, cigar box. It will probably age longer knowing Mussar, but this wine has definitely hit its stride and is absolutely singing right now. — 2 years ago

Believe this is the 1st vintage released to the public. At age 15 finally decided to pop a bottle and see what's what.
+1 hour decant(some fine/cloudy sediment). A striking still inky dark magenta color. On the nose: subdued nose of dark fruit, graphite, clove, forest floor, smokey vanilla. Taste: silky, rich, nice depth mouthcoating wine with blackberry, gravel, baked fig, rich soil, and a dark chocolate tobacco finish with some slightly chewy tannins and a just a touch of heat at the end. YUM! — 9 months ago
