So for those who don’t know, this wine is a collaboration between one of the most famous California winemakers and one of the most famous Bordeaux wine makers (the grapes are from Napa).
The young expression when I first had it 10 years ago was big bold ripe fruit, probably the quintessential Napa cab.
The aged expression had more secondary and tertiary characteristics, terroir, and represented Baron Rothschild in respects of crafting a wine that could grow and develop and express the care that goes into winemaking as opposed to simply growing good fruit.
The young version of it perfectly expresses Mondavi and Napa. The aged version captures the elegance of Bordeaux winemaking and Rothschild’s fingerprints. You cannot fully experience this wine unless you’ve had it young and old. Unbelievable experience tonight. — 9 months ago
2009 vintage — 3 years ago
Very linear and primary still but opening up nicely with a rare purity and supple tannins. Good stuff. — 3 years ago
Ripe red and black fruits accent the strong leather, vanilla and tobacco aromas, lush on the palate with spicy tannins that linger on and on. — 4 years ago
Needed a full hour in the decanter before it really began to show up, but could have used several more for sure. Rich, textured and with with quite racy acidity for 2009, showing squeezed lemons, yellow apple, ripe pear, spices and crushed oyster shells. Great purity and energy for the vintage as well that leads to a long intense and mineral infused finish. — 5 years ago
Delicious!!! Ripe dark fruit, long finish, deep dark color with a soft pallet! — 6 years ago

I’ve had friends put them in there for the steam from a shower and it worked out.

And the Heitz was great but from 2 days ago, Delectable takes a couple days now to show the wine you post.

Oh if it’s a garden like this you can use ice cubes placed on top of the roots then drain the ceramic after they melt. Not Warhol. Lemon and slate. Plush fruit. Good stuff — 2 years ago
Sitting on the precipice of primary and tertiary. Still has bright fruit notes with high acidity and just enough tannins that it would still pair well with food. But it also has forest floor, mossy stone, leather, cigar box. It will probably age longer knowing Mussar, but this wine has definitely hit its stride and is absolutely singing right now. — 3 years ago

the Rieslings weren't top class, the rest not specially made for me. — 6 years ago
Blend of Cab Sauv, Petit Verdot, & splash of Merlot; estate-owned vineyards Rutherford, Napa, St. Helena & Stag's Leap District. Just opened, 14 years in the bottle after couple of years in the barrel! Still tasting well, young & juicy, should easily last another decade, but nice now. Deep Ruby, dark fruits, spice, complex nose. Palate reflects juicy rich berry fruits, well structured harmonious wine. Fine soft rich tannins, long finish ending with fruit, tobacco and earthy tones. Wow! — 9 months ago
Fruity aroma. Concentrated. Smooth. Still tannic. More years or decanting makes it much better. La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904 Rioja Tempranillo Graciano 2009. @2400, Kping - PEnoteca, 230601-230729 — 3 years ago
Lovely, fragrant, sweet fruits, leather and smooth finish. 2009. — 4 years ago
It is Tuesday night, the night after my first Covid-19 shot. I thought it would be nice to open a 2009 Muga Selección Especial Rioja Reserva. This is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo.
On the nose there a notes of black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, licorice, savory notes, leather and earth.
On the palate I find notes of black cherry, black plum, tomato, black currant, spice, licorice, black pepper, a nice mineral note and earth.
This wine is full bodied with a fleshy velvety mouthfeel, medium+ acidity and medium + fine mouth coating tannins which moves into a long dark fruit savory earthy finish. Definitely a lovely Rioja and in a very good drinking spot right now but still has many years to go. I hope everyone is doing well please still stay safe and healthy. Have a great week going forward.
