2017 vintage. Medium-heavy body. Brusque as fusque. Serious bruiser. About as much nuance, currently, as a car alarm at 3:47am outside your window. Fruit about as dark as you can get. Should be doxxed and serve out a mandatory 10-12 year sentence before sampling again. Even then, probably too soon. Recidivism is thy name. Total bad boy. Good luck with this one. Musk, Holly berries and bramble, pine needles, iron, velvet, driftwood, hints of coffee and bold red meat. There’s berries in there, red, lush, ripe and dark, but it’s so well integrated into the perfume (and it is perfume) that it’s impossible to separate them. Like a thin spread of preserves and dank basement. Palate has that lean nature of Syrah, between medium and light bodied, tannins present, but molded well into the palate, not ostentatious. Lush, silky dark red and black fruits roll forth, along with some charcoal, graphite, blood, and iron. — 4 months ago

From one of the absolute best sites in Chassagne, the ‘22 vintage and third vintage from Theo Dancer is expectedly superb, and the sunny and impeccably located La Romanée vineyard is profoundly textural, satiny and incisive with a particularly citrusy profile with freshly baked bread and chalky minerality. 2015 vintage. Tasted the 2023 version two days ago (9.4). Massive fruit and acidity and built for the long haul. So too, was this effort. Decanted and tasted after an hour at approx 62 degrees. Medium-heavy body. Golden ripeness harnessed by governing acidity. Hovers in this state for another 4-5 years before descending to a different stratum. 3.20.26 — 3 months ago

Stunning. Dauvissat perfection. 2012 Clos is perfect tonight, with more fruit definition than Preuses as expected from the site. It’s textural, chiseled and powerful with Chablisen oyster shell minerality layered in a tidal wave of spiced orchard fruit and white flowers. It’s incredibly silky on the palate showing killer volume and density with racy citrusy acids and a sea spray-like salinity to round it out. When Dauvissat is on it’s hard to beat. Dancer’s Perrieres vines are sandwiched in between the great Roulot and Lafon, and his 2013 Perrieres is a stunner. There is so much depth to this wine and it’s about so much more than just reduction. It’s detailed, complex and layered with yellow fruit and stony minerals with superb density and inner mouth tension. It’s powerful and intense but its weight is so lifted and the freshness of the vintage keeps it impeccably well balanced. There is a line of pulsating acidity and exhilarating energy on the palate that leads to an explosively long finale. — 5 years ago
