+1 hour decant(decent chunky/fine sediment). A wonderful dark ruby red color. On the nose: jammy plum/dark cherry, floral, graphite, sandalwood, crushed stone. Taste: drinking great...silky, opulent, balanced wine with blackberry jam, cherry, earth, currants, and a peppery, saline-mineral long dry finish. YUM! — 3 months ago
So this is not exactly Elizabeth. It is the same fruit that goes into the Elizabeth, but they made it only as a vintage. They did not put the Elizabeth name on it. There reason is, they believed it wouldn’t last two generations.
As a vintage, it is better than their N/V but not up to most Elizabeth’s I’ve had. However, it is about half the price of Elizabeth w/o less than half the quality.
It was a bit better than 93, 93.4 so I rounded down. — 4 months ago
GSM that is 67 percent Grenache and 22 percent Syrah. Lots of fruit makes this delightful. May 2025. — 5 months ago

At 23 years of age And 22 years on the lees, this wine has loads of toasty autolytic flavors combined with lemon drop, dried orange rind, dried raspberry, baked apple, toast, pastry, honey, hazelnut and acacia. Soft but persistent mousse and an extremely long finish. — 8 months ago

Five years cork age on this beauty; glad the decision was taken to drink (now who relies on natural cork); wildly full of pinot noir development; nose heaviness; layers of mature pinot tertiary aromatics; such as herbal oils, deep nuts, mushroom, aged yeast bits too; drunk with raw scallop, celery, fennel shavings, mullet bottarga; dressed with lime, olive oil; Pol brings out the savouriness of the green vegetables; salt of the sea, sweetness of scallop; all veges home grown; palate is full on; powerful, not the massiveness of Winston Churchill but same mould; square wine which hardly tapers in the mouth; the amazing feats of champagne! @polroger #polroger #champagne #1999 #pinot — 11 years ago
No notes, I popped that bottle to celebrate my daughter's 12th birthday. We grilled an entire chicken on an open fire to celebrate, here in the Polish mountains, half a dozen miles away from the slovakian border.
I really like this bubbly. Brioche and fresh pastry notes on the nose, ripe apple notes, lemon juice. The palate is rich, broad, showing apple juice and lemony notes and that french pastry mouthfeel, almost buttery. There is some tang and acid drive in the rear giving it great balance. The finish is long and fresh. Only bit of criticism, I could do with more delicate bubbles. This is a great celebratory bubbly, really. Kudos ! — 2 months ago
This wine comes from a time when natural wine was still a revolution, not a trend. Foillard, one of the Gang of Four, took Gamay to wild, expressive heights with deep structure and an earthy sensuality which entices any wine lover. Twenty years later this wine is a testament of passion; on the palate the wine is so harmonious it decimates in your mouth like the most beautiful time lapse you’ve ever experienced. Great wine. — 3 months ago
Deep ruby, lovely maturing aromas of black cherry, strawberry, smoke, lavender, thyme, forest floor, grilled meat, blackberry. Fine balance of acidity ands tanning, fresh on the palate with great depth and finesse. Long finish, ten more years ahead. — 6 months ago
