Château Du Grand Barrail

Domaine François Raveneau

Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 1999

Taken to Hawksmoor in NYC for our uncle’s 75th. Decanted in hotel for 7 hrs before dinner. Light to medium gold color, heavy in the glass. At first the nose is muted with light citrus and white flower notes. Late in the evening after 10 hrs of air this finally blossomed into the Raveneau they is known and loved. Notes of citrus fruit, ocean breeze, kiwi, white stone, white clay and tan spice. Acidity finally came on too. Great wine but still too young. Needs 5-10 years of additional age to be in the ”go” zone. 94++ — 13 days ago

Epic but even at 10 years this is way too young. Only starting to strut its stuff. Needs another 5-10 easily. — 12 days ago

Domaine William Fèvre

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2020

The 2020 Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is a thrilling effort. The nose unveils laser sharp aromas of lemon oil, oystershells, green and yellow apple, pear, pastry, white peach and traces of flawlessly integrated oak. The wine's broad shoulders and remarkable flavor concentration are balanced by an almost electrically charged acidity. This is both a hedonistic as well as an intellectual Les Clos from Fèvre with guaranteed aging potential. Drink now until 2050. — 15 days ago

Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1992

Gorgeous. Intense and lifted. Multi layered. Really fresh with great length. Wow. On the reveal, what happened to Leflaive that their wines show like this at 30 years yet 10 year old grand cru are a premox crapshoot? So disappointing when you see how these age. — 14 days ago

Domaine des Lambrays

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2020

Perhaps the finest vintage of the new millennium, the 2020 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru currently shows extremely well. Taking the first nose is almost like walking into a garden with a wide array of flowers, followed by precise aromas of predominately red fruits, orange rind, sweet spices and wood smoke. This is a full-bodied, hauntingly elegant, majestic Clos des Lambrays with ultra fine-grained tannins and a long, lingering finish. Drink from 2028 until 2050. — 14 days ago

Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2010

Great! Still very young with apparent oak, but so seductive at this stage. A real “power without weight” wine and in a way, almost an antithesis of the Roty. Red fruit dominated, with flowers, spices, heaps of minerality, and traces of meat. Powerful, especially in Rousseau-sense, yet so elegant and pure with lacy textures and superb salinity. Boah! I really did love the minerality here. Drinking so well now, but will take some time before it hits its peak (NB: the mind-bending 76’ Beze we had a few months back is surely proof). — 16 days ago
