No specific notes but a truly good Douro red in a nice vintage. Lots going on under the hood. — 21 days ago

Folias de Baco

Uivo Renegado Vinas Velhas Red Blend 2024

On a really hot day, full of Canadian smoke( Export A’s, anyone), thunderstorms and possible tornadoes, this vino zaps you into focus. Strawberries and vaguely Italian like Cherries on the nose mingled with earth, feet, and some umami on the palate. At first, the acidity is bracing. But with food a unified whole emerges.Perfect with Bacon & Lemon roasted Trout.Cuts right through the fats without overpowering your buds. Very glou glou at 11.5°.Raise a glass to Portugal!
With Randy.

Late Bottled Vintage Porto Port Blend 2019

Big, rich, ripe LBV with awesome fruit and structure, lacks the subtlety of the 1977 Graham’s vintage, but a great LBV as a sipper!! — 3 months ago

So, @Somm David T, thank you for the advice — we last visited Taylor-Fladgate in February of 2019, got a few nice pictures of the male peacock with the incredible plumage, but knew nothing about the Scion. If/when we go back to Porto, I will ask next time (can I use your name so they don’t think I’m just another American idiot/loser??) — sounds incredible, though, thanks!!

@Somm David T, also, we’ll be opening a 1977 Taylor Vintage Porto soon as well, I’ll report here how it was (purchased back in the early 1980s, with my other 1977s)!! Cheers!!

No name needed. Just ask for it. They make quite the presentation serving it. I’ll look for your note on the 77. Cheers. .

Fonseca

Vintage Port Blend 1977

1977 vintage. Last tasted 12.23.23 (9.6). Opened and filtered into a decanter. Tons of chunky sed trapped in the bowels of the bottle thank goodness. Tasted after 1 hour. Still top-notch and still going to outlive your born/unborn children. Great vintage port has a way of eliminating your rationalizations, excuses and contrived nonsense and cutting immediately to the bottom line. Prepare to be boarded. 8.1.26. — a month ago

100% agree on your general observations about vintage Porto, as well as the 1977 Fonseca!!

Herdade do Esporão

Reserva Alentejo Antão Vaz Blend 2023

Esporão Reserva Branco 2023 is a complex, full-bodied white from the Alentejo region. Creamy texture, balanced acidity, and notes of fruit, citrus with hints of oak. It's made from indigenous grapes like Antão Vaz, Arinto, and Roupeiro, offering a rich palate with a long, vibrant finish, making it a classic and harmonious wine. — 3 months ago

Val do Salnés Albariño 2025

Soft tree fruit aromas, mouthwatering, lemon zesty, salt aftertaste that lingers on the tongue.
My favorite from Albariño class! Perfect pairing with orange shrimp, rice, and summer veggies!

Vintage Port Blend 1977

[8 hour decant] This is from a very fine lot of 1977 Graham’s I purchased in the mid-to-late 1990s from a small Napa importer, and is at the level of the 1977 Fonseca we drank last week, sweet, nice weight and balance, long, lingering finish, very nice!! — 3 months ago

Quinta do Vallado

Douro Touriga Nacional 2014

Strong red fruit in the nose with a touch of smokey oak. Raspberry and red cherry with a touch of leather and violet opens into round tannins with a dry medium mouth feel. The finish is long with good tannins settling into a touch of maduro style cigar and fennel seed. Very enjoyable and I recommend decanting this bottle. — 4 months ago

Taylor Fladgate

Vintage Port Blend 1994

1994 vintage. Popped, decanted and filtered and tasted immediately. Opened six decades too early. The whole crushed violets and plummy thang definitely there alongside hints of sweet tobacco in her breath. With apologies, just another number in your little black book. These are the pros and cons. 1.24.26. — 8 months ago
