Blackwood Valley, South West Australia

Penfolds

Bin 389 South Australia Cabernet Shiraz 2002

4 left after this one. Following my plan of having one per year until complete. This has not changed much from 12 months ago. At its peak sitting on the plateau. Notes of dark chocolate, mocha and blackberry - the Penfolds DNA in essence. Tastes a lot younger than 20 years of age. Medium plus bodied with a savoury twist at the finish. 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Shiraz. — 2 days ago

I feel earlier vintages in late 90’s and early 2000’s were very strong in terms of QPR. I don’t buy this any more as I consider it too expensive (in the US) for the experience.

Totally agree with you. Back in the day it was affordable.
Still enjoy drinking it.

Yes Ron, sadly that seems to be the experience with all of Penfolds Cuvées. I remember at the Downs Club we sold 2 pallets of the 1990 Bin 389 (still drinking well today) for $12.50 per bottle.

Vat 1 Hunter Valley Semillon 2015

This was great with Thanksgiving dinner. Fresh cut grass, lemon, honey, apricot, peaches, and some funky minerals that push toward Riesling notes. Outstanding. Wonderful body and finish. — 4 days ago

Penfolds

Grange South Australia Shiraz 1999

My Father passed away at 100 and we had the viewing this evening. We celebrated with this earth stopping red wine. A carmelized tannin flavor leads the parade of complex tastes .A long lingering taste profile that is hard to verbalize. How a 24 year old wine can be this big is incredible. Tobacco, granite, huge nose. Not browning at all. Deep ruby red color still. A fitting tribute!!!🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 11 days ago

Art Series Margaret River Chardonnay 2010

My last bottle of the 2010 Art Series Chardonnay. See previous Delectable note. An excellent generously constructed Chardonnay. A few years on has lost a little vigour for little added complexity. My previous bottle was at its peak. This bottle was good but needed to be drunk. It would develop flabbiness in the future I feel. Still peaches and cream with M intensity and M- acidity. — 17 days ago

Adelaide Hills Shiraz 2017

The purest shimmering shiraz fruit, wrapped in a shroud of fine savoury tannin. Very deep blue, and black fruit. The framing of the fruit speaks to the skill of the winemaker. Dark and quietly serious but with savoury freshness. VG — 13 days ago
