Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1990

My second opportunity to enjoy the 1990 Rafanelli Cabernet in the last five years and I’m happy to report that it’s still chugging along quite nicely!

Popped and poured; enjoyed from red Solo cups over the course of a few hours. The 1990 pours, a deep garnet color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and significant sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous yet the fruit remains remarkably fresh! Still with a lovely mix of red and dark brambles and cassis, leather, tobacco, mushrooms, earth and fine baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. I continue to be impressed with the ageability of these wines that were made by Dave Rafanelli. Drink now through 2030+.

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2015

Very light pale yellow robe, nose of orchards, limestone and a hint of honeysuckle. Very fresh and rich in the mouth, with lemon zests and mineral notes. Very long. A pleasure now, but hold your breath. A great Don. Impressive how each year they get it right ! — 10 days ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 1995

[En Magnum] This is absolutely a beautiful, 30-year-old, Beaucastel Rouge in large format, mostly clean (just a trace of Brett), red fruits, still some structure, but not tannic, balanced, complex layers of flavors, long finish, really a top-notch Beaucastel with old school ABV (13.5%)!, lovely!!! — 14 days ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

Well super highly rated. Quite fruit driven and juicy. Easily drink now. Hard to pin down / i am a a pinot guy after all. Could age for 15 years or so but would not keep it too long. — 2 days ago

It’s been many years since I’ve had any Musar wines, I have very fond memories drinking them in the 1980s when we lived in NYC and they were pretty easy to find at retail!!

@Anthony De Blasi, BTW, do you know what the cepage is in this wine?
Anthony De Blasi

Anthony De Blasi

@Doug Powers indeed, it’s a great winery with iconic wines. The cepage is Cab Sauv, Cinsault and Carignan. I still have the 2011 in magnum for my daughter her birthyear 🤩

Produttori del Barbaresco

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2021

Ruby with a rich bouquet of fruit, spices and floral notes. On the palate flavors of cherry and raspberry with notes of pepper, cinnamon and floral. Long finish, nice balance with fine soft tannins ending with earthy notes. Enjoyable now, a few more years will benefit. The ‘21 is a real insight for what the Riservas will taste like. Rated #7 wine of 2025 by spectator. — 17 hours ago
