Blend of Grenache dominated wine with Syrah and Mourvèdre added in the blend, Ruby with aromas of red fruits, floral and spice. On the palate flavors of cherry and plum with licorice, black pepper, herbs and tobacco notes. Long finish, fine tannins ending with fruit, cacao and earthy spice. Pair with beef or game meats, a big wine just starting to drink well. — 10 months ago

Another fabulously pure wine in this eclectic range of southern Rhône experimental cuvées from Xavier Vignon, this time a 100% Mourvèdre from old vines around Vinsobres, from the 2015 vintage.
The nose is large and herbaceous with a great juxtaposition of floral qualities with waves of deep, generous, dark fruit. There’s also spice, camphor, and vanilla best sniffed from a large glass.
The wine is full bodied on the palate, but with great purity and very supple tannins. The finish finds a sweet note and carries on with good length.
Impressive stuff for a Vin de France priced at around £15-20. This is so youthful even now with seven years of age, so I’d love to try it again in years to come. — 2 years ago
