Have to admit I like her frappato blends a bit better. This Nero d’Avola is light and elegant to start but then finishes a bit brooding and heavy - like a dancer jumping into the air and then stomping back down to earth. @ Chambers — 15 days ago

La Spinetta

Il Nero di Casanova Toscana Sangiovese 2020

Dark ruby color with a slight brick rim. Aromas of cherry, bramble berries, leather, orange zest and dusty earth. Flavors of black cherry/berry/raspberry/plum fruit, blueberries, tobacco and savory spices. Intense earthy quality on the long finish. Mouth watering acidity and very silky tannins. Medium-plus body. A bit of heft and intensity. Solid weeknight option. — 2 months ago

After tasting next to other organic/low intervention wines, the structure and finesse of this wine becomes more evident. Smooth red and dark fruit on the palate with good but no overwhelming acidity. Drinks like a wine from a colder climate. — 5 months ago

Memoro Primitivo Blend

Hubby had this one without me (!!). A cheap Italian blend for $13 but its quite delicious and complex. Interesting cider donut spice with cocoa and vanilla but also some basil and nutmeg. It’s a wild ride. Jealous that I missed it. — 6 months ago

Aalto

P.S. (Pagos Seleccionados) Ribera del Duero Tinto Fino 2018

Mariano’s Garcias crown jewel, he was the front man at Vega Sicilia for three decades. He then founded Aalto with the vision of creating the highest quality RdD which you didn’t have to wait fifteen years to enjoy. Many think he’s done it! I pretty much agree. — 7 months ago

Saia Sicilia Nero d'Avola 2016

Wow. This wine evolved from a bit off-balanced spicy austere wine to a deep complex earthy wine with layers of dark fruit. This is why I love wine. There is a story underneath the surface. — 8 months ago
