Post dinner party notes. Classic right bank ‘18: dense, dark, soft but tacky tannins. — 3 months ago

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2002

I have always enjoyed this wine & decided to open one of my last few btls out of an owc. This had a perfumed nose of red & black fruits, mocha, graphite, menthol & tobacco notes. One of the wines of the vintage. — 4 months ago

Château Fombrauge Saint-Èmilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Dynamite. Cork broke, but not to worry. The wine is so good. Deep, expressive fruit and bitter leaves. Earthy. Improving considerably as it breathes. And the bottle weighs 37 pounds.

Château Pipeau

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Pipeau is an early foray into 2005 for me. Not a bad place to start. Very round structure. Full fruit with stewed plum, black cherry, slate, hint of mint. A little dry on the finish. Will mellow in the next few years. — 9 years ago

Domaine de L'Arlot

Clos des Forêts St. Georges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2013

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2013 pours a deep, slightly hazy ruby color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with beautiful notes of strawberry, raspberry, dried roses, sous bois, licorice, dried green herbs, gentle warm spices and limestone minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and full of rustic character. In general, the 2013 vintage in Burgundy is on fire right now. And as far as Domaine de l’Arlot is concerned, I adore these wines and wish I could drink them more often. Drink now through 2038. — 4 months ago

Château L'Arrosée

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Sweet vanillin, dried red fruits, still quite fresh and clean, medium-bodied, resolved tannins, but the bright acidity really carries this into a long, lingering finish, my wife’s favorite Bordeaux, alas only a few more bottles left in the cellar!! — 6 months ago

Château Beauséjour

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

1990 vintage. Last tasted slightly over 3 years ago (8.7). Solid fill and cork. Not decanted. Tasted after two hours. A curious, fecal nose that never dissipated but nose didn’t invade the flavors that were earthy and spicy. This was immeasurably improved over the last encounter. Based on this visit, could go another 2-3 years at this level. 11.21.25. — 9 months ago

Château Larcis Ducasse

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

2017 vintage. Last tasted 8.8.24 (9.4), 3.15.22 (9.4) and 8.27.21 (9.4). IIRC…95% Merlot, 5% Cab Franc. Medium body. Lost a little weight and oak influence. Consequently, many of the overt, feminine influences so noticeable the last few years, have retreated a tad. More prominent dark chocolate and earthy tones currently. The new red BDX Coravin pour at $50 a glass. 5.7.26. — 4 months ago

Strawberries, black cherries, dark chocolate and truffles. Very powerful. Apparently it is aged in 100% new oak, which is often not the best idea, but in this one it's perfectly integrated. Very long finish. — 5 months ago
