Lost Vineyard Merlot 2017

A really nice introduction to Snowden Vineyards with this one. Deep cherry color with a thin rim. The amount of earth on the nose is really nice. Graphite and soft red cherries leads to just about the right amount of cedar. Juicy blueberries take the lead after a heavy decant.

Single vineyard Napa Merlot with a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon thrown in just for good measure. Medium bodied with tannins on the supple side. 14.0 but doesn’t get the balance off. Nice acidity and structure. The palate mirrors the nose with brambly fruit and toasty wood elements. Long finish with spices and herbs. Next time your dumb friend starts quoting Sideways, give them this.

The Ranch Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Comparing to the 13 last night...
This is not quite as big in alcohol. Even more opaque. More silky on the tongue. Instead of a green front I got a little spice, nutmeg. Tannins were softer. In sum, I give the slight nod to 2013 Snowden over 2012 Snowden. Experiment complete.

Melchior Kemper Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2015

Medium Ruby with a gorgeous aroma of candied violet, dried herbs, blackberry, juniper, cedar, anise, black cherry, dried raspberry, and tobacco leaf. Great balance of vibrant fruit, velvet tannin, firm acidity and terrific length. A lovely wine — 10 months ago

Lost Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2000

Always fun to try older wines like this. Cassis, dried herbs, tobacco, cigar box, soft tannin and acid still holding. Great time to drink. Buddy brought it as a shoe in for a faulted wine and it turned out to be a stunner. Gotta say, sometimes bottle variation can prove to be a good thing, if you get the right one of course 👍🏻 — 7 years ago

Los Ricos Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Another nice 2013 bottle. Great with leftover wagyu New York Strip

The Los Ricos Vineyard is a steep one acre block at the southwestern corner of the property. An ancient, dry-farmed prune orchard grew on the site when we came to the ranch in 1955. In 1997 we removed the remaining prune trees and replanted the field to Cabernet Sauvignon, using Clone 337 on 110R rootstock. The block extends from approximately 625 to 675 feet of elevation. The surface is east-facing at a grade of almost 20%, which means the vineyard receives significantly more morning sun and less afternoon sun than the other vineyards on the property. The soils are predominantly volcanic Rhyolite.

Santa Maria Valley White Wine 2014

#WhoIsRuben event honoring Ruben Solorzano. Nice Sauv Blanc - perhaps an extra point for being nicely chilled on a hot day. Goodland (Good Land) is a joint project of Ruben Solorzano, Matt Dees, Chris Snowden and Dave Potter. — 8 years ago
