Puisseguin St. Émilion, Libournais

Château Lassègue

Saint Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Around 25 ha of vines, limestone clay and the average age of the vines is 45 years. Dominated by Merlot (65%) with CF and CS (25-10%). Red and black fruit, some flowers and five spices. Very smooth and soft tannins on the pallet, drinking remarkable well for young wine like this! Thumbs up from the queen so happy with this OWC for a bargain. — 5 days ago

Château Figeac

La Grange Neuve de Figeac Saint- Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

Not an easy vintage for anyone in bordeaux. This is very elegant and understated with this sophisticated blend of Merlot and the cabernets. Right bank meets left bank and is a good cross. One of the last vintages of the old regime at Figeac and highly recommended !! — 19 days ago

Château Berliquet

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Deep purple hue. Crushed violets plus tidbits of black tea, raspberry, older oak and damp earth along for the bouquet ride. Quite the dance around the borealis. Light-medium bodied. Classic flavors and structure leading to a polished finish. No flamboyance whatsoever…honed and focused. Well-made, textbook Bordeaux with all systems GO! — 9 days ago

Château Pavie Macquin

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

2017 vintage. Oh. Wow. Blue/black fruit, dusty cedar and rhubarb in the nose. Silky medium body. The cedar (and a bit of oak) galloping through on a body thinning finish that ends up supremely dry after collecting zinc, orange peel and sea salt. This baby needs some TLC in the cellar and will grow up to be an absolute monster. — 6 days ago

Château Canon

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Canon bursts from the glass with expressive notions of baked black cherries, kirsch, plum preserves and black raspberries plus hints of red roses, Ceylon tea, black olives and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate is wonderfully elegant and refined, with a soft, finely grained texture and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. The blend is 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc and it was aged for 18 months in French oak, 50% new. — 11 days ago

Château Macquin (Saint Georges)

Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

2017 vintage. Pretty solid fruit balanced with tannins/structure. Really good QPR/bang for the buck. Finishes smooth without that greenish acidity that plagues most Bordeaux in this price range. — 2 days ago

Château Villemaurine

St. Émilion Grand Cru Classé Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Mint, cinnamon, molasses, spent coffee grounds, cassis and orange peel compose the bouquet. Medium body but medium/big tannins. Orange-based tea and earthy finish. Meanders in an endearing manner with just enough richness to coat and mitigate multiple astringent flavors…and ultimately…comes into focus pushing a really delicious balance. Ignore at your own peril/price point. — 5 days ago

Château Pavie Macquin

Les Chenes de Macquin Saint-Emilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

The second wine of Chateau Pavie Macquin. Popped and poured, this needed at least 90 minutes to even begin to open up. In the glass, dark ruby with a nearly opaque core. Medium+ viscosity. On the nose, medium intensity with dark cherries, some purple flowers and freshly tilled earth. On the palate, dark cherries, plums, tobacco, and earth. Medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Long and satisfying finish. Drink now with patience or hold for the next 10 years, easy. — 11 days ago

Château Vieux Longa

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Soft, fruity, fragrant with just the minor green pepper distraction from the cab franc. I liked it more than I anticipated. Maybe cause it coat-tailed on my grilled lamb chops, which were perfecto. — 9 days ago
