Klein Constantia

Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Muscat à Petits Grains 2020

Smelling this i'm reminded of the sweet wines in Piemont. Elderflower is the dominant note on the nose and I expected this to be quite light...it isn't! Sweet and sticky with lots of citrus peel and later a bit of raisin and spice. Was impressive and original. Paired with pear frangipan — 2 months ago

Some grapefruit, orange peel, apple cider notes. A bit of bitter as well. This has some skin contact. Golden color. — 4 months ago

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2007

Beautiful vintage for this Burg that never disappoints showing rich dark fruit, lots of spice, orange peel, mineral & violet. Sadly only a few btls left of 2 cases. Their 07 Charmes Chambertin was equally great. — 9 months ago

Baden Pinot Noir 2020

What do we get in Liason that we give up in Basis. How big's the gap? The answer is not huge for personality, a little for complexity, and substantially for cohesiveness.

Basis pours darker wtih a condensed core. Leans heavier on fruit than minerals, more direct, head on. Leaps at you with a teabag of bright red cherries, burnt sugar, wooly musk. The mouth is unpolished but it works, a rawness and some crunch. Sour cherries, macerated yogurt cup strawberries, dried orange peel.

Liason is elegant, Basis is fresh.

Château Coutet

Sauternes-Barsac Sémillon Blend 2017

Orange peel marmalade, apricot, spices?, tropical fruits (notably pineapple). Honey with subtle (Brazilian nut) nutty quality. Very faint hint of cheese. Rich, fairly complex, and lasting. Just lovely. — 2 months ago

Comtes de Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 1996

Happy Valentine’s Day! Continuing our tradition of pulling one of these each year - 11 down, only 1 more to go after this! Reminder that we need to choose a new case of something soon.

This is excellent as always but I’m not sure hits quite the same high note as last year’s bottle. Fine mousse, nose a bit more restrained. Palate is explosive and so deep with wonderful candied caramelized lemon peel. Wonderful pairing with carbonara!

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2005

What a special treat!!! So enthralled by the moment that I forgot to take a photo with the dessert last night. 😜 This wine was stunning! Layered, complex, balanced. Pronounced and concentrated notes of dried apricot, peach preserves, marmalade, orange zest, Meyer lemon peel, citrus blossom, gardenia, cinnamon, cardamom, saffron, lavender honey, and beeswax. It coated the palate with a lasting finish. Again, such an absolute treat!! — 2 months ago

Monteraponi

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2020

2024/1. I always love this wine and this bottle of the 2020 was a bit more in keeping with my impression of the house style than the last - savory, tangy red fruit, orange peel and earth, though still particularly rich and layered in this iteration — 4 months ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2002

Golden Lemon colour . Rich nose , vanilla lemon tart , toasted nuts, touch of butter . Persistent and rich , ripe lemon , candied peel, orange rind , yellow fruit , quite creamy . Good acidity, lovely balance , rich though still mineral on the finish, structured. From now , though absolutely no rush , probably even better in 5 - 8 years, will last another 10 years. — 10 months ago
