Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Medium straw in color; passionfruit, jasmine, and white peaches on the nose; high acidity; tastes like guava, lemon, pear, and kiwi with a long fruity finish. Nellie likes it and I love it! — 2 months ago

This is really something. Gorgeous lemon and minerality. Lovely soft fruit. Resolved but with beautifully balanced acidity. This is in a great place right now with signs of secondary notes but dazzling refined tension. Exceptional — 4 months ago

Pale lemon color.
Aromas of lemon, mineral, nuts.
Dry. Flavors of lemon, peanut, pastry. Nutty notes are odd, but not unpleasant.

Muscadet doesn’t get much better than this. Lemon zest, tart green apple, tons of wet rock, screaming acidity. So good. — 3 months ago

Sir Winston Churchill Brut Champagne 1996

Great stuff. From mag. Loads of secondary notes. Brioche, dried apricot, a lift of lemon. Lovely freshness and acidity still. Really complex, nutty and vigorous. At a perfect point for my palate and consistently one of the great 96’s — 4 months ago

Comtes de Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 1996

Happy Valentine’s Day! Continuing our tradition of pulling one of these each year - 11 down, only 1 more to go after this! Reminder that we need to choose a new case of something soon.

This is excellent as always but I’m not sure hits quite the same high note as last year’s bottle. Fine mousse, nose a bit more restrained. Palate is explosive and so deep with wonderful candied caramelized lemon peel. Wonderful pairing with carbonara!

Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardonnay 2020

Loads of verve. Driven by lemon zest, salinity, mint and dried rocks. Just beautiful tension that elongates the wine to a long, lingering finish. Second-favorite vineyard for Chardonnay in California that encapsulates the very best the state has to offer. Top class. Paired with lemony shrimp scampi — 6 months ago

Not ready for prime-time just yet, but that didn’t prevent us from committing the felony.
Pale straw color in the glass links up with lemon curd and a hint of gooseberries. Robust acidity frames this up nicely. Finishes taught and with urgency. Drinking the best wines in the world can be a little like fumbling around in the dark. But with this, I can see in the dark.

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2005

What a special treat!!! So enthralled by the moment that I forgot to take a photo with the dessert last night. 😜 This wine was stunning! Layered, complex, balanced. Pronounced and concentrated notes of dried apricot, peach preserves, marmalade, orange zest, Meyer lemon peel, citrus blossom, gardenia, cinnamon, cardamom, saffron, lavender honey, and beeswax. It coated the palate with a lasting finish. Again, such an absolute treat!! — 3 months ago

Salon

'S' Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil Brut Chardonnay 1997

Still quite medium light lemon yellow , pretty youthful looking . Was pretty difficult to get the cork out and wasn’t going to risk sabrage on a bottle of Salon ! A few very fine but persistent bottles . Nicely yellow fruit driven nose , lemon peel, vanilla , acacia , orange blossom and pastry . On the palate quite rich and rounded , those citrus peel notes , mixed with oyster shell , and dried apricot , and baked pastry . Quite a lot of extract still and really quite fresh , long and well balanced finish . Perfect drinking now and over the next 10 years perhaps. This is the original release from a case purchased here in Brazil about 7 years ago, still going strong which is good to know . — 6 months ago

Holy crap this is crazy and funky and special. Fresh cut grass, licorice, fish oil, like, so crazy special. It’s been open for 24hrs and the acidity is still through the roof. Silky and fresh but with lemon rind and mouth drying freshness, this is delicious and really unique. — 6 months ago

Cakebread Cellars

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2022

Pale lemon color with aromas of ripe fruits, citrus, vanilla and spice scents. On the palate complex flavors of apple, peach, pineapple and lemon citrus, well balanced with acidity on a nice mouthfeel. Long finish ending with oak, vanilla, mineral and citrus notes, will continue to age. A beautiful Chardonnay. Pair this with a Swordfish steak topped with balsamic roasted tomatoes. — 8 months ago
