Pop and pour, wine shows fantastic out of the gate. Insanely dark, inky in the glass. Wonderful nose with loads of vanilla oak and a hint of pepper with a slight alcohol burn. First taste far exceeds expectation. Velvety tannin l, the vanilla note shines in this wine (which works wonderfully) for the price this wine is amazing. A Calistoga wine for the price and quality is almost unheard of in this day and age. Defiantly seek it out. — 5 years ago

Soooo reticent. We enjoyed this over three days, not because we wanted to but because we HAD to. If you are looking for immediate gratification, this wine AIN'T it. You enjoy this wine for the bright future ahead of it, and the wonderful family behind it.

Do yourself a favor and drink the Tanbark Hill while listening to a podcast where the Genius Mr. Togni explains his adventures in wine. A filet mignon and fingerling potatoes wouldn't be a bad idea either. Bordeaux class, California sunshine! — 7 years ago

This is the 2010 Yalumba Signature Series Cabernet Shiraz named in honour of Yalumba Ambassador Jane Ferrari who is holding the bottle next to me. Jane travels the world spruiking the Gospel of Yalumba in the most entertaining and knowledgeable way. This was an outstanding Cabernet Shiraz Blend. Equal in quality and cellaring potential to Penfolds Bin 389. Blackberry and chocolatey tannins. Sweet berry fruit still with noticeable oak and a long cellaring potential. Purchased this 2008 Owen Roe Syrah about 7 years ago from Atlantic Wine, a sort of innocuous wine merchant in North Buckhead Atlanta. I do remember it shared a building with an upscale outdoors outfitter (Yeti, Patagonia, North Face, etc...) along with a large Goodwill Store/Donation Center. I always kick myself for not going in that Goodwill, and imagine it was an treasure trove of never used luxury camping gear. Instead, I opted for whatever mix of First Growth Bordeaux was in stock at Atlantic, which inevitably left me a bottle short of a 10% discount, thus resulting in this purchase, and later to be stashed away in the back and bottom of the cellar. I had completely forgot about this ghost bottle until tonight. Despite the wax seal, I still was slightly concerned that it might be past its prime, so I pulled the cork... An exotic, but pure cacao that’s pleasantly unforgiving, and cautiously allows in some lush blueberry compote, along with finocchiona rolled in fresh cracked pepper with thyme, tarragon, and lavender. Could certainly last another 5-7 years, but it’s too stunningly beautiful now to resist. — 7 years ago

So I believe this Sunshine Vineyard is from the Wappo Hill portion of the Hartwell Estate......sorry now this portion belongs to the Realm Cellars estate. Medium to deep garnet red with bricking on the edges. Stinky and savory on the nose straight from the get go. Opened up over the next half hour or so with stoney notes, a touch smoky and soft red cherries. Well integrated and smooth, moderate tannins (6/10). Beautiful aged characteristics on the palate with notes of dusty black cherries, a touch of chalk and dust, mushrooms, truffles, and also gains some aged red cherries. Medium plus body with a super long finish. This bottle has aged very well. Drink now if you like power in your Cabernet but this will keep for few more years. Drink till 2020. — 7 years ago

The lady of Gramenon has slapped me in the face with her mineral wand many a time and I have loved it, but this was what I was always looking for. Had all the good characteristics of a very well aged soft warm voluptuous Chateauneuf with a SICK mineral streak for support and depth.
