Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2017

Excellent Beaujolais. Pinot like qualities even at the open. Leave it to breathe and it gets a lot better — 8 days ago

Vieilles Vignes Côte de Nuits-Villages Pinot Noir 2019

This was delicious, and a winning blind for me. Having a baseline on the table definitely helped. Although less sweet and intense, I felt the JM Millot was in the same genre as the Métras, with similar texture, floral lift, minerality, and red fruit profile. It was the difference in fruit sweetness that gave it away as being from greater Burgundy, whereby Pinot Noir usually appears less sweet than Gamay to me. The village was definitely a lot harder to identify which made sense upon the reveal - when in doubt, it’s probably from one of the lesser communes (or Morey lol!). Fine, fresh, and energetic, I would have drank a lot more of it if not for the other wines on the table. Another to revisit. — 16 days ago

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Hermitage Syrah 2006

This wine is deep ruby with developing and robust notes of blackberry preserves, crushed blueberry, dried prune, fig paste, violet, cherry blossom, black licorice, anise, cedar, nutmeg, cardamom, allspice, pencil shavings, leather, tobacco, and forest floor.

On the palate this wine is dry. It has medium acidity, a full body, high alcohol, smooth, fine-grain tannins, and medium(+) intensity in flavors consistent with the nose. It’s bold, structured, perfumed…

With a long, elegant finish and impeccable balance, this wine is top-notch-delish! C’est magnifique!

Rittersberg Zen Alsace White Blend 2018

Vintage 2018 | Jean Paul Schmitt is a winegrower that makes wines of character in Scherwiller. Biodynamic. All of one plot, the Rittersberg with granite terroir. This cuvée ZEN appeals to me. It is a ‘gemischter satz’ (blend) of five winegrapes. Friendly, flint, good body, citrus and good acidity. Fine effort. — 9 days ago

Mâcon Chardonnay 2019

Pale lemon with aromas of citrus, stone fruits and floral notes. On the palate flavors of apple, melon and lemon citrus with creamy notes of honey and vanilla oak. Medium+ finish, vivid acidity and ends with mineral character. Drink now while it’s fresh! — 10 days ago

Terres Brulées Cornas Syrah 2015

Trying something different tonight. Nice northern Rhône style. Expressive nose. Somewhat grippy tannins. Medium body. Nice acidity. I decanted this for about 30 minutes and it improved with more time in the glass. — 10 days ago
