The Beaujolais 16’s are genereally very open for business. This wine has a clean nose with strawberry and cherry. Nice acidity, no red candy notes that I have come to really dislike with too young wines. Will be good for a handfull of years ahead. — a month ago

Hermitage White Rhone Blend 2003

Tasted blind. Medium to dark gold. Nice weight. Old/leesy nose with notes of apricot, bruised apple, pineapple, apple cider. Muted acidity at first. But with 6 hours of air the zing of acidity powers up. I'm in the "it's not chardonnay" camp. After going through a mental list of "what it's not" I arrive at a guess of 95 Chave Blanc. This got better through the day. Surprisingly good for the hot vintage. — a month ago

Grusse en Billat Côtes du Jura Chardonnay 2013

France goes through to the knock out round of the world cup - this calls for a little celebration! The nose is a tiny bit oxydative already with cooked apples, lemon, pear, a buttery note and some white flowers lingering in the back. This is a seriously complex nose. The palate is extremely well made with a massive acid backbone but with some width and weight. There is almost a thickness quality to the mouthfeel at first reminding that of a premier cru white burgundy in the côte de beaune. The difference is in the finish with is very fresh, vertical, made of lemony touches all through the end and which lasts for a good minute. This is great stuff! — a day ago

Les Chalasses Marnes Bleues Côtes du Jura Savagnin 2013

En-magnum. Elevated to another level with the cheese board and notably the only white that could really keep up with the Rieslings during the night. The flavours of salted almonds, beeswax, hay, and light smokiness just went so well with the Comté. Mama mia! The wine was complex, very straight, yet dense and had a lovely textural richness. Lots of citrus and minerals, as well as spicy nuances to complete the notes. Even more mineral on day two.

NB: SC firmly believes this and the Les Vignes de Mon Père are Ganevat's best cuvees and perhaps the two greatest sources of Savagnin anywhere.
