Burgundian Grand Cru from Germany decant 24h’s. Made by the late Bernhard Huber who died unfortunately of cancer much too early. Dark and big 🍷. Almost too highly extracted for my taste. Cassis, bark, mushrooms 🍄, dark berries - blackberry/elderberry blend! Direct from the Winery not available in the USA 😳. Very highly recommended! Drink Now! Dark berry and coffee on the nose. In the glass a little bit of refined earth. Dark cherry. Not very acidic. Herbal on the finish - Elderberry? Very elegant and delicate. The opposite of an in your face wine. A beautiful textbook Volnay. From a lesser vineyard but hey Mark Haisma is a magic winemaker. An excellent food wine salmon, duck or coque aux vin. Soave often gets a bad reputation but this one is pretty good. The label says elderberry and hawthorn notes. I guess that is the slightly pungent, green nose and taste. It does have some more peach like fruit notes but quite subtle. Dry but not bland or acidic, the texture is quite lush for a light wine. Certainly quite enjoyable and a welcome change of pace for the price range. — 7 years ago
