Château Gruaud Larose

Château Gruaud Larose

Larose de Gruaud St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Quite deep ruby with wide terracotta , garnet rim . Quite deep slightly funky , red focused sous bois . Tobacco , slightly herbal notes . Quite concentrated but slightly flat red fruited sous bois , tobacco tinged , mineral , grafite finish. Not the best bottle of this , a bit funky and lacks a little exuberance and clarity on the nose and palate. Drink now and over the next few years on this showing. A pity but that is sometimes the way the wine world works ! — 7 days ago

Château Larose-Trintaudon

Cru Bourgeois Haut-Medoc Red Bordeaux Blend

Excellent left bank Bordeaux cab / Merlot mix. Cherry oak leather. Some spice. Felt like it had Petit Verdot but bottle didn’t indicate it did. — 2 months ago

Château Gruaud Larose

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

2016 vintage. Always understated style. Lean throughout. Light-medium body with dedicated, yet delicate, push. Distinctive producer. Enduring delivery currently. Obviously not for everyone but for those that get it, borders on obsession. Mushrooms. Drying earth. Light cedar. Cassis. Subdued sandalwood. Very close to being the Burgundy of St. Julien. Last tasted 9.20.21 and scored same. 3.16.24. — 12 days ago

Château Lalande-Borie

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Well stored bottle, No problems whatsoever Dark web info, Chateau Lalande Borie is a relatively new estate in the Medoc. The vineyard was initially created when the Borie family purchased 18 hectares of vines from Chateau Lagrange in 1970. To that, they added 12 more hectares of vines from various other growers, some of which needed planting.

Things changed with the 2018 vintage when the estate was renamed Le Petit Ducru.

Chateau Lalande Borie Vineyards, Terroir, Grapes, Winemaking

The 25-hectare, Left Bank vineyard is planted to 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard has a terroir of gravel and clay soils. The clay in the soil is part of the reason that today, you find more Merlot in the vineyard. Previously the Cabernet Sauvignon occupied 65% of the vineyard makeup.

The vineyard is well placed in the western part of the St. Julien appellation. It is situated inland, not too far from Chateau Lagrange, Chateau Talbot, and Chateau Gruaud Larose. The vineyard is planted to a vine density of 8,500 vines per hectare.

Château Talbot

Saint-Julien Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1986

1986 vintage. 5 bottles tasted for a 1986 vintage BDX dinner @ Mister A's-San Diego. This was up against other 1986's Pichon-Lalande, Beychevelle, Gruaud-Larose, Montrose and Cos. Double decanted and tasted over 5 hours. Respectable sed. Effin pop and pour now. Right right now. The clear winner. So good with balance and enough fruit without having to reach or rationalize. If you're not able to access for 7-10 years, you should be okay. Delicious. 3.14.24. — 14 days ago

Domaine Fleurot-Larose

Abbaye de Morgeot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2018

This wine is actually a 1er Cru Red Burgundy. Intense aromas of mushroom and clean freshly tilled earth. Dark cherry and raspberry fruit flavors with truffle notes and a nice “gamely” quality. Hint of mineral on the finish. Medium plus acidity. Deep red color. Barely translucent. Elegant! — 3 years ago
