Côte De Beaune, Burgundy

"Cuvée Corcelette" Morgon Gamay 2023

Wow. Not just forest floor but tree bark and liquorice and a hint of menthol layered into this crunchy textured Beaujolais.
One of the few fine reds that I can open and enjoy in the middle of the day without wishing I was eating food with it. It truly stands as something to enjoy on its own without a pairing.

Valmur Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2014

Quite light straw . Very complex and taut on the nose , with crushed shells , touch of honied citrus fruits , gun flint , green apple , camomile . On the palate this is very mineral and intense with chalk dust and citrus , apple peel , really long and mineral . Good volume but really excellent balance . Perfect fresh acidity, and saline mineral intensity on the finish . Really young still but so good at the moment , though will continue on like this , probably improving for a further decade at least . Restaurant Drouant , Paris . — 17 days ago

Morgon Gamay 2017

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2017 (S) pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and signs of fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with pretty notes of mostly red, tart fruit: strawberry, raspberry, Montmorency cherry, licorice, dried green herbs, menthol, and rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and just a touch mousy but within the acceptable range. Refreshing and a lovely pairing with burgers on a warm Spring evening. Drink now through 2032. — a month ago

La Tâche Pinot Noir 1975

1975 was one of the worst Burgundy vintages. This La Tache, light, aromatically brilliant, balanced with a weak mid palate and a non existent finish was still a good lunch wine. Slow oxed for 30 minutes prior to drinking — 2 months ago

Fading at the edges. Beautiful soft dried herbs, wild strawberry, tang. Translucent and precise on the palate. Complex and delicious and long mature note and hauntingly pretty — a month ago

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2022

Popped and poured from magnum; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2022 pours a deep ruby/purple with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart red and dark fruits: Bing cherry, pomegranate, licorice, dried green herbs and rocky minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. A young Côte du Py, especially in this format. Drink now with patience and through 2042. — 2 months ago

Clos de la Mouchère Monopole Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Honeyed medium yellow to the sight, true to its age. White floral and lemony vibrant notes dance on my nose. A touch reductive on the initial sip, the palate opens up with time to showcase classic mineralite and a vibrant fruit core with notes of citrus and to a lesser extent, stone fruits. Lovely weight with great mouth caressing viscosity and silkiness. Definitely in a good drinking window with no sign of fading and evolving in the glass over a lovely 2 hour Cantonese cuisine dinner. Absolutely spot on! — 2 months ago

When I taste a wine like this my first reaction is why am I not drinking more Chablis. Opened and the race was on. The quintessential grand cru Chablis. Never stopped putting on weight and complexity . Plenty of life ahead — a month ago
