Superb nose with fresh white grape juice, squizzed lemon, lime zest, white flowers, a bit of chalk, too. The palate is gentle with some nice acid frame, lovely lemon curd, zesty and fresh white grape notes all along. It's almost slightly effervescent on the tongue, adding a subtle layer of complexity. A bit of width, some grip in the rear and a nice finish with the same fresh, citrusy, zesty notes that carry on for a while. We had it along a summer salad with Greek cheese, tomato, lettuce and olives and this was a great pairing. Fantastic value, as always. — a month ago

I’ve been on the lookout for Mayer wines here in the US and happened to find a bottle in a retail shop while out of state visiting some family. I’m shocked much makes it to the states with roughly 160 cases of this wine produced.

100% whole cluster; 13.5%ABV

My immediate thought after popping and pouring was that if Cayuse made a Pinot, it would smell like this. So much stemmy/herbal/savory aromatics with peppered rhubarb and red berries. Translucent ruby in the glass (closer to darker-style rosé’s in color). The funk continues on the palate (in a delicious way) with more stemmy and savory spice, cranberries, and black tea. The stems give this nice tannin structure while the acidity here is vibrant…keeps you going back for another sip. I followed over two days and it stayed pretty consistent.

This is 100% up my alley and a wine I’d love to acquire more of. Very curious how these age (because it seems like they would hold wonderfully). — 2 months ago

White peach stone fruit in a hint, just a hint of diesel on opening, but the diesel smelled dissipated quickly and never came back. At first blasted almost a bit chewy yeast he kind of like a still champagne, but that changed as it opened up and got some subtle mineral notes along with the broad stone, fruit, white peach, apricot, you name it. Tried a little bit of smoked Gouda with it, and it definitely turned into a much better wine with the cheese and smokiness playing off the flavors of the semi crisp and fruity wine.  — 6 months ago

So we are tasting the 2005 side by side with the 2007. Both decanted and both are singing. This is a difficult call and I am giving both a 9.6 rating, not willing to rank one above the other. Deep and complex flavor profile. Incredibly smooth. Fantastic wine. — 6 days ago

What a wonderful wine! The nose is a bit muted and not as expressive as some Kabinett bottlings from the same producer that I had recently. It's also very young. Lemon juice, pineapple, fresh apple, a bit of a petroly thing, too. The nose is full of restraint and rather delicate. The palate is model of balance. Residual sugars are clearly present but the acid backbone is so powerful that what remains in the end is a tangy, very fresh note which leads you to reach for the glass immediately to take another sip. Apple, pineapple and lemon notes all along, a bit of an oily, sirupy texture in the mid palate, some mild grip in the rear and a very lovely zesty touch all over the finish which makes for a great tasting experience. Star bright pale straw. Honeysuckle and ripe peaches in the inviting nose. Bright acidity on the medium palate which confirms the nose with a slight hint of smoke. Finish is naturally lengthy given the richness. Classic Mosel Kabinett Riesling from a well established and highly regarded producer. Crisp and very clean and quite enjoyable with 8%abv. Classic aromas and flavors of green apple, pear, lime, honeysuckle, flint, wet stone and white peach. Off-dry with high acidity, the wine has a lovely balance of fruit and acidity and a long finish. A joy to drink. — 6 months ago
