Medium deep ruby with quite narrow violet pink rim . Aromatic on the nose crunchy cassis , blackberry , and slate . On the palate fresh summer pudding fruits , spicy with black pepper notes , mineral , quite strict and refreshing acidity . Leaves the palate very clean and refreshed, no excess sweetness or flesh on the palate . Ripe but slightly gritty tannin . Ok length. Drink now and over the next 5 years . — 2 months ago
Awesome nose. So peppery and herbal with gorgeous red berry fruit. Terrific earthiness and complexity. So focused and aromatic. Outstanding. Palate is so fresh and energetic. So linear and focused. Elegant, complex and long. Age has really made this a wonder. Juicy and concentrated. Lovely pearly tannins and a building sweetness on the finish. Terrific wine. — a month ago
Glorious. Delightfully floral, fruity, typical cab franc notes. Touches of cocoa, toasted almond, herbs, and a real soulful tartness. Truly a wine of balance, with all the complexity of the grape but also delicious now. This will evolve I’m sure but hard to beat how it is today. — 2 months ago
Good strawberry and oak aroma, acidity. 2019 @1080, domaine -, 230110-230116 — 24 days ago
The 2020 version of this cuvée once again notches into my top white wines ever. Elements are in balance and working with vim and vigor. Body is full, acid is bright and crystalline but somehow tender (that’s relative - it is still scorching). And the texture is world class. The floral and confectionary perfumes that emerge in time layered over wool and slate simply steal the show.
New Year, and let’s be honest the world seems to be hurtling past the point of no return into a black hole of shit, but I’m thankful for Roches Neuves / Boudignon / Huet / Closel and the other guiding lights of Loire Chenin, making what I maintain is some of the best wine on earth and selling it for a pittance (even at $80 this is a value) Until everyone else wises up, I will just be over here with my other Chenin zealots (here’s looking at you @Peter van den Besselaar ) nursing bottles of Saumur, Savennieres and Anjou and laughing at our good fortune. This wine is absolutely stunning on hour 2+ so that’s where my notes will reflect. Just wish it showed this way longer! After a lengthy decant 2012 Reynard finally comes alive to flaunt explosive, layered and distinctive Allemand aromatics of cassis, violets, olive and crushed stones. The palate has such concentration, depth and fruit intensity that’s seamlessly balanced with its layered minerality. Finish just keeps on going. Love these wines so much. — 7 days ago
