Silver Oak

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Yeah, what can I say. Nice wine for sure, but for some reason when I see the Silver Oak label my expectations rise. Realizing this is the Alexander Valley version. But 2011! Thirteen years old. Still rather single note, strong oak tannins still overshadowed what maybe underneath it. A bit disappointed I am afraid. We pulled it out with my first ever Tomahawk ribeye… so yeah. — 20 days ago

La Rioja Alta

Viña Alberdi Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2017

100% tempranillo, aged in oak for 2 years. Deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits, spice and herb notes. On the palate flavors of cherry and blackberry with notes of oak and black pepper notes. Fine soft tannins, great balance with acidity, long finish ending with fruit, vanilla, oak and slight earthy spice character. Will age short term! — 6 days ago

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2011

Rich black fruits, oak and leather aromas; softened but present acid and tannins, the fruit is more tart on the palate, lighter in body while being rich flavored. — 25 days ago

Silver Oak

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

Flight #3 of our 1997 Retrospective. Presented single-blind; no formal notes. Wine #3 was vinous and in great shape. The only wine in the group that showed stronger notes of coconut and vanilla than the others. Called Silver Oak. Drink now and through 2030. — 23 days ago

OZV Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel

Dark maroon color. Jammy and fruit forward but not sweet - dark cherry, blackberry, raspberry, dark chocolate, warm spice. Medium body with smooth mouth feel and soft tannins. Paired well with homemade pizza (pepperoni, roasted mushrooms, onions and basil). Will make a very nice table wine - planning to pick up several bottles for upcoming family reunion! — 24 days ago

Silver Ghost

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Got this bottle from the dealer after buying a new car. The owner of the vineyard had a n ancestor who worked with Rolls and the Silver Ghost was his favorite auto. Kinda young (2022). Could have been better if I let it lay for awhile, but was anxious to see how it tasted. — a month ago

Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2004

Last Sunday lunch with Roast Lamb. A 20 year old Rioja fitted the bill nicely. A blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. Aged in new French and American oak for 24 months. Aromatics of tobacco leaf, plum, ashphalt and a bit of tar. A medicinal note the following night. The palate is medium to full bodied with berry, plum and liquorice. Resolved Tannins - quite fluid. This was Wine Spectators No. 1 wine for 2013 and now drinking at its peak but could go on for another 5 years on the evidence of this superb wine. — 3 days ago
