Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2020 pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart fruits: Morello cherry, raspberry, cranberry, roses, tar, cool spices and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. I found this bottle to be a little shy for the first 30min or so but opened up nicely by the end of our meal. Drink now through 2040. — 6 months ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 2021 pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with beautiful notes of Luxardo cherry, strawberry, red roses, crazy sun-Alpine herbs, and exotic spices, porchini, the powdered cheese packet from Kraft, mac & cheese, and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose (save for the mac & cheese packet, lol). The finish is long, elegant and saline. Furthermore, the wine seems to gain body and weight with air. This might be the best Monvigliero I’ve had from Paolo Scavino. Drink now through 2051+. — 7 months ago
Powerful, earthy, and spicy. Dark chocolate and cassis. Still has lots of life in, so feel free to hold if you have some in your cellar. — 9 months ago
A nose of roses, tobacco leafs, star anise, liquorice, some red fruit too and we find these expressive aromas and flavors on the well balanced palate as well, the tannins have a nice texture, some grip but with some silk also, and a very “Nebbiolo like” finish with a slight touch of dryness. Not the most complex and a wine to enjoy with a meal. 91 pts
91 pts. — 5 years ago
Freaking amazing. Barolo, my happy place — 11 years ago
Love this Falanghina white grape. Crisp & citrus tastes. Found this at Total Wine for under $12 — 12 years ago
Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service; enjoyed over the course of dinner. The 2009 pours a deep garnet color with an opaque core and a burnished rim; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears and plenty of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe black fruits: black plum, salmiakki, mixed flowers, some nail polish, blood, wild herbs, a mix of organic and inorganic earth and exotic spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long. It’s been several years since my last 2009 Pagliaro and it certainly hasn’t lost any of its potency. A special wine from a special vineyard cared for by a special producer. Drink now with a decant through 2039-ish. Bottle No. 3815/9570 — 4 months ago
This one had good bones but the slightest hint of vinegar on both the nose and palate - and the telltale orange rim in the glass. Drinkable but maybe just OTH and couldn’t measure up to the previous reds — 5 months ago

sooooo smooth with great balance — 6 months ago
Forgot to add this… Very pleasant blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier. The crisp nature of Sauvignon Blanc is not lost between the creamier and more exotic elements of Chardonnay and Viognier. — 6 months ago
The oldest wines appearing on the menu at Villa Baccaris, montforte’ alba are 2000. Beautifully smooth, still complex but are all great old wines in good condition more alike than different? 390 euros. — 7 months ago
Aug 2025: PnP ready, very good nose, almost lost fruit, strong tannins. Very nice first 30 min, then faded away quickly in one hour — 10 years ago

Paolo Bea dinner at Semo. All wines were prepared by opening and slow-ox, prior to service. Abbreviated notes due to the setting. The The 2020 Santa Chiara appears a deep orange color with notes of marmalade, apricot, flowers, and varnish (VA). The palate shows low+ tannin and decent acid. Tasty, complex stuff as usual. A lovely pairing with gougère of prosciutto, green olive and honey. Drink now through 2030-ish. Bottle No. 2814/5940 — 4 months ago
