Established in 1997 by the partners of Far Niente. Medium lemon color with aromas of tropical and stone fruit with citrus and toasty oak notes. On the palate flavors of apple, pear and peach, lemon zest, vanilla oak and wet stone notes. Nice balance with tangy acidity on long finish ending with fruit, oak and rich minerality. Corked broke. Again. Constant issue with older Nickel wines and particularly this one

Thankfully wine was solid. Starts off quite juicy and plush.

With a little time and the right food pairing, it provides a little more grip and flavor.

For me - this took some caviar and salt to really get it going and then it was at another level. Rating is with caviar. Definitely 2-3 pts less without it. — 3 months ago

I bought this from barrel tasting at Nickel & Nickel’s luncheon futures, Entrecote En Baguette. Tasted 20 Cabernets and this and the Sori Brico were the two Sofia and I purchased.

Dark currants, medium plus tannins, anise to black licorice, dry leather & tobacco, dry herbs and thick, dark florals that are framed in violets and lavender. — 6 months ago

1 of CA's oldest wineries, Far Niente, founded 1885 by John Benson. Winery flourished until Prohibition, when it was abandoned & fell into complete disrepair. Stately stone shell of a winery purchased in 1979 by Gil Nickel. A big wine! Tropical and stone fruit aromas with complex spice and oak notes. On the palate apple, peach and citrus flavors, creamy, with buttery toasty oak, fig/honey tones. Long finish ending with vibrant acidity & mineral character. Consistent. — 10 hours ago

A great Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 18 months in French oak, about 50% new, deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits, cigar box, lavender and spicy scents. On the palate flavors of black cherry, plum and currants with cacao, floral and minty notes. Fine dusty tannins, long finish ending with fruit, leather, tobacco, espresso and earthy character on a long finish. Very Nice. Will age. — 6 months ago
