In Playa del Carmen at an Italian restaurant recommended by an Italian realtor that we met today. An OK wine for about $35. — 16 days ago
It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.
Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
On the nose black plums, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, spices, light alcohol and peppercorn.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, cloves, light vanilla, tobacco, coffee and peppercorn.
Nice length on the finish with soft tannins and spices.
This is a very enjoyable Merlot based Bordeaux blend from Israel. Nicely balanced with a nice smooth mouthfeel.
This 5 year old is peaking now, and needs 90 minutes to open up properly, so be patient.
Fruit forward with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Good by itself or with food.
I paired it with cheeses and crackers.
A blend of 45% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit Verdot. Kosher and Mevushal.
14.5% alcohol by volume.

Arbe Garbe Sonoma County Proprietary White 2019: Medium-body. Low acidity. Elegant balance with expressive floral notes & layered fruity flavors. White peach. Citrus. Guava. Pear. Honey. Crisp & clean finish. This was a great recommendation of a beautiful & interesting white blend of 50% Malvasia Bianca, 30% Tocai Friulano & 20% Chardonnay. Not common to the New World but these varieties are common in the Friuli region of Northern Italy. Glad to see them grown locally & expressing the local terroir of Sonoma County! Great day to all! BC. Black currant, over-ripe stone fruit, earth, tobacco acid. Really nice complexity. Good now, suspect it will age well. — 4 days ago

This is pure romance in a glass. The gushy, sweet kind that makes you float on air.
A lovely orange pink robe with a plethora of fine, cascading bubbles initially. Innate creaminess and richness. The nose is a bit closed off to begin with but starts to truly shine with air. Sugared strawberries, peaches, and a touch of watermelon. Fresh herbs and pretty flowers. Tangelo and cherries. There’s a nice amount of citrus aromas.
Composed of 92% Chardonnay from the Grand Cru village of Chouilly, with 8% Pinot Noir from the Premier Cru village of Bisseuil. This is a Rosé that demands your attention and rewards you for it. Low dosage of 5 g/l. Firm but incredibly graceful, this is an incredibly sleek champagne. Nice acidity and terrific focus and balance. Everything in the right place.
The palate is fresh and inviting. A kiss on a beautiful Spring day. Very sensual on the tongue with more candied fruits and viscosity. Long finish with a touch of spice. Performed splendidly in the Lehmann glass. Amongst a sea of similar tasting rosé champagnes, this is one that definitely rises above. — 5 days ago
Dark purple with a thin rim and very pretty cherry red flecks. The nose on this beauty is just insanity. A core of black fruit punctuated by beautiful, beautiful dirt. A good bit of menthol smoke and unsmoked cigars. The fruit can be a bit shy at first but a blast of cherry and raspberry wakes you up. And there’s some funk here too. Beautiful, sexy, funky funk. Not too much, just enough to titillate.
Peloursin is a rare rare varietal to find out here in the wild. Think grapes like Petite Sirah or maybe Bonarda. Medium bodied and slightly intense but not too sharp. Always wonderful Howell Mountain fruit in the masterful hands of Mike Dunn and it shows. Low, low alcohol at 13.0 and that is so very nice. Needs plenty of time in the decanter. Wonderful acid and terrific balance and weight here. The notes in the mouth are reminiscent of the notes in the nose with some glorious cherry essence and forest floor. A most peculiar wine but a great one. I struggle to really think of a good comparison for it. It’s just really so damn good and that’s all that matters. — 2 days ago
Dark ruby in color, almost Inky, with a short purple rim. Not showing age at all.
Light nose of blueberries, blackberries, black currants, sweet cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, cola, herbs and black pepper.
Full bodied and big, with medium acidity and fat legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black plums, cooked cherries, cedar, cola, vanilla, spices, espresso, chocolates, peppercorn, bitter herbs and earth.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.
This is a delicious red blend from Sierra Foothills in California. Showing nice complexity with a nice mouthfeel.
Easy drinking right out of the bottle, and better after 30 minutes of airtime, when the tannins show up, and bring nice structure to the wine.
Rich and opulent. Fruit forward and tasty. Spicy and interesting.
Good by itself or with a big piece of steak.
A blend of 37% Syrah, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. Aged for 19 months in American oak barrels (30% new). A small production of only 7 barrels.
15% alcohol by volume.
