My first time trying one of the hotly anticipated 2019s from J. J. Prüm, this being the Kabinett from the Himmelreich vineyard in Graach. 2019 was a hot vintage which benefited from cooler temperatures and rain towards harvest in September, tempering already high sugars in many of the grapes. A degree of the crop had been lost both through hail in Spring and sunburn in August. Nevertheless, 2019 has been lauded as the vintage of the century, drawing comparisons to 2016 Bordeaux, among others - and is especially successful at the drier end of the classification. So, how does this wine from the Kabinett Prädikat fare?
It’s a featherlight Riesling, often the mark of this estate in any given vintage, but while airy and graceful, there’s tremendous intensity to the palate, great persistence and a very long finish. A touch reticent at this stage, but that doesn’t fully hinder the aromas of orange marmalade, white peach, blueberry, juniper and tomato vine,
Aaand my notes ended there - perhaps I was enjoying it too much 🫠😅 either way, this was a knockout Kabi! — 3 years ago

A fascinating nose mingles sea breeze, intimations of wet stone, and smoky struck flint with high-toned nut extracts, ripe nectarine and mango. The lusciously fruited, creamy, almost weightless palate leads into a sensationally sustained, at once soothing and stimulating finish that left my salivary glands palpitating and that, for all of its sheer richness, not to mention high residual sugar, displays a fascinating array of stony, smoky and saline mineral nuances. A wine full of pear, apple, elderflower and peach flavors in a real round, intense mouthfeel. A nice dry taste with the presence of slate and creaminess — 3 years ago

The condition of the bottle was remarkable - the wine was fresh and crisp, like the day it was bottled. Bright with a tinge of green, no signs of TDN at all. Only the mellowed acidity gave any indication of age. Insane!
Despite all that, the wine itself was rather disappointing. Not really complex or deep, and finish was quite short. I guess it did come from a tough vintage. However, it had the classic Grunhaus lightness - drinking more like a kabi than spat. In conclusion, an easy fun drink that fell below expectations. — 6 years ago
2014 vintage. Apricot, white peach, guava, pineapple skin, yellow pear, honeysuckle, honey, white rocks, straw. Good value Mosel Riesling. — 9 years ago
2011. Good fruit and tension. — 11 years ago
Green apples, slight honey and petrol. There is a sweetness to the acidity. It’s delicate. There is a slight wet creek rock meets little white wild flowers taste to it. I feel like I should be by a gently flowing river in spring that you would find in a Disney movie… maybe sitting in a canoe. I would pair this with a Pudelpointer, a water fowl retrieving dog from Germany. Both wine and dog are friendly, calm, and disciplined. — 3 years ago

2023 Dr. Loosen Erdener Prälat Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel. On the nose honey, and tropical fruit: guava papaya, hint of spice; almost white pepper; tangerine, jasmine. On the palate, good concentration; honey more beautifully ripe mango (almost like a creamy mango lassi), tangerine, very nice apricots; slate minerality; a spine of acidity balances all the ripe fruit. The fruit quality shines here so I don’t feel bad drinking this young. — 9 months ago
