Barolo Del Comune di La Morra Nebbiolo 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2021 “Del Comune de La Morra” pours a brilliant garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and redolent with bright, fresh red fruits: framboise, Morello cherry, freshly paved asphalt, trampled rose petals, a kiss of VA, and dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A wine you just want to smell for an eternity. Brilliant. This enjoys a lot of air and I expect will have a very long life. Drink now with patience through 2061. Thanks @Lyle Fass for the assist! — a month ago

Easy, full mouth but not heavy body, raspberry/cherry. Would be good with prosciutto and cheese, light food

Renato Ratti

Marcenasco Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

Marcenasco is the first site where Ratti started to make Barolo. When he was still in Brazil working for Cinzano a certain Bruno Giacosa selected the location for him.
Renato Ratti is arguably the most important person for the development of the reputation of Barolo the way it is now.
He was the first to map the vineyards, pointing out the best crus; he spread the use of the Albeisa bottle in the consortium after studies on old book. He made Barolo become a DOCG.
He just saw and achieved what others could only smell.
He is the most highly regarded innovator of the area and everyone looks up to his memory.
Disappeared too early in 1988, he left to his son Pietro an incredible legacy.

The winery is located in La Morra, nonetheless their wines age fantastically specially the Marcenasco that drinks quite well early, like this example from 2020, but will also benefit from 10 + years in the bottle.
Tannin is smooth, fruit is there and we see some balsamic and floral already.
Only at the beginning of the journey.

Del Comune di La Morra Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

Really a lovely Barolo (esp for the price on an otherwise over marked wine list) and drinking quite well at this stage. The tannins are very present, but relatively fine grained. Pretty classic Nebbiolo fruit with great acid on the finish. Delicious. — 2 months ago

Vigneto Arborina Barolo Nebbiolo 2018

Fruit sourced from three young, cool vineyards, Arborina and Gattera in La Morra and Castelletto in Monforte d'Alba, Ruby red with a bouquet of dark fruit, spices, leather and licorice. On the palate flavors of sour black cherry and plum with notes of pepper, smoky tobacco, vanilla and oak. Long finish, nice balance with fine drying tannins, savory edges, ending with earthy mineral notes. Good now! — 2 years ago

Bricco Delle Viole Barolo Nebbiolo 2005

Finally a 2006 Barolo for me which is almost ‘a point’. A lot of sweet berries, round and rich with some tannins in the background. roasted herbs, floral and ‘La Morra licorice’. Very elegant wine now and fantastic balance overall. Nice! — 3 years ago
