This was the most Burgundian California Pinot that I’ve ever had, both the nose and on the palette. The wine would have benefited from an hour or two decant. Rich darker fruit well integrated with some tar and some earthy notes. — 9 months ago
We had the pleasure of opening the 2021 Hermann J. Wiemer.
On the nose there was nice strawberry, cranberry, raspberry, herbaceous notes and green bell pepper.
On the palate there was good strawberry, raspberry, red plum, green bell pepper, a bit of oak and crushed gravel.
This is a medium bodied wine with light velvety mouthfeel medium to medium + acidity and medium to medium + fine tannins that leaves with a medium to medium + red fruit gravel dust finish. Well it looks as though spring can't make up her mind. This weekend looks to be a bit on the cooler side so lets get out and enjoy ourselves. Please stay safe and healthy. My 4th spin with this vintage and it's holding steady, if a little more reserved than it was in youth. The 16s were super open and drinkable young but have added more of what you'd expect in it's youth, more structure, more density, just more serious. Decant if having right away. If you can plan it, splash decant briefly and rebottle it with the cork open for 24 hours. — 3 months ago
Medium lemon color with aromas of stone and citrus fruits and sweet nutty notes. On the palate flavors of apple, melon and pear with citrus, vanilla and toasty oak, slight creamy texture. Medium+ finish, lively acidity, ending with fruit, nuts, toasty oak and savory lemon character. Nice! — 6 months ago

Compared to the last Becker dry Spatlese tasted, this was less inviting: a bit more mineral & stony, with none of the fruit flavors associated with Riesling to be found. Very chiseled & imagine needs time in bottle/ long decant. You can still taste the precision though. — 2 months ago
