Spanna Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo 2019

Little funk on the nose. Sour cherry, some minerals and a bit of smoke. Little lighter than I expected, some healthy tannin on the back end. Really fine wine for $20 or so. Nice to see Vallana’s around again. — 7 months ago

Mille e Una Notte Nero d'Avola 2020

Vintage 2020 | 12 m barrel aging, nero d’avola, syrah and petit verdot. Cedar, brushwood, sour plum, much character but to my taste a bit rough. I prefer Tancredi. — 2 months ago

Ex Voto Ermitage Blanc Marsanne Roussanne 2013

90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne, aged 30 months in new oak. Some will say this is over the hill, others will say it needs hours of air. It’s undeniably an eclectic and intriguing wine. Honey and toasted nuts. Rich and full with an unctuous sherry finish. Paired with chicken liver mousse. — 3 months ago

I’m sure I’d be in the “over the hill” camp. I personally struggle to enjoy wines where I can perceive oxidative notes, even in wines where they’re supposed to be there (I would place Hermitage Blanc in the “not supposed to be there”camp.)

Francesco Rinaldi e Figli

Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

A mid cherry red in colour. Aromatics of red fruits, menthol and touches of tar and roses. Light to medium bodied on the palate - surprising for a Barolo with medium plus intensity. Different and interesting in a good vintage from an excellent producer. Next in a year. — 3 months ago

Mint is correct. Red fruit and earth and gentle oak. High acidity. Super food friendly. One of the best. 2004 but feels young! — 7 months ago
