So hard to define. Minerally like Chablis. But heavy like CA chard? Awesome. Loved it. — 6 years ago
Drinking in its absolute prime right now. Aromas and flavors all point straight to Chablis, with copious, vividly define notes of flint, smoke, sea salt, chamomile and caramelized citrus. But the wine's rich, tactile palate presence betray its Californian origins. Lovely balance here. — 6 years ago
Valentine's Day 2018. Paired with Roasted Butterflied Lobster Tail, and a Chocolate Truffle Torte. Notes to come:)
- - Brane-Cantenac is a special wine to my wife and I. It is the first Bordeaux Chateaux we ever visited on our honeymoon. It is this little modest estate sitting in the shadow of the oversized Chateaux of Cantenac Brown, but it couldn't be more opposite when you bring the wine into the mix. Classic Margaux nose but less funk and more fruit. Terrior is hard to define, but if you have been somewhere memorable, and have a wine or food from that place.. it's when you have it again and it transports you back that to that place and time that defines that for me. It smells of the cool clean air and morning dew, sunshine, gravel dust from the road we had just driven in on, leather and wood from the barn, and the fresh overtones of fruity wine just beginning fermentation in the production facility that make up the core character of the wine. It is the terrior of Cantenac, and more specifically of Brane-Cantenac.
Paired this with Roasted Butterflied Lobster, and Broccolini, and a little left over for the Chocolate Truffle Torte I made as well for Valentine's Day. — 7 years ago
Loved this. Not that familiar with Chablis so difficult to define a reference point. Lovely oily texture with good acid and fruit. Great nose as well. — 8 years ago
Nice, Sarah to define. — 8 years ago
Great wine: hard to define, easy to recognise. — 9 years ago

Clos du Mesnil is a 1.84-hectare vineyard in Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger surrounded by the walls. Its location and microclimate define a distinct terroir for Chardonnay which is renowned in Champagne as much as Montrachet in Burgundy.
This precious CdM'82 I shared with my champagne fellows on the eve of COVID-19 crisis. Memories that CdM definitely imprints in our minds and deep emotions which stay forever.
Perfectly aged multilayered wine with a complex tertiary bouquet to die for. Roasted nuts, honey, chalkiness and underlying pronounced acidity. So joyful!
Solo in Remi Krug terms, but the power of its voice equals to the orchestra. — 5 years ago
So much going on here that is intriguing. I keep going back to try and define it all. — 6 years ago
Superbly satisfying. Cabernet Franc, elevated and “extracted,” at least in the way I define that term. — 7 years ago
Tasted in 2014: Great example of the strong smoky flint and limestone notes that define Pouilly-Fume. Also has aromas of orchard fruit and a smooth, creamy finish. — 7 years ago
Superb cherry, sour cherry nose. A metallic touch some spices and a kind of earthiness quite hard to define. Some funky barnyard notes as well. The palate is wonderful. You want to chew it for days. Superb balance, cherry again, soft tannins, mild acidity, long finish, a bit of salt, very very enjoyable. Il love it. I declare 2017 beaujo year. #passionbeaujo 2014 seems to be a very good vintage for Beaujolais — 8 years ago
Only getting more refined with time this is showing beguiling complexity reminiscent of some good 1er chablis can’t quite define if that’s butter or silk or withering white flowers. Loving it. — 5 years ago
Holy smokes this is good. Backbone aplenty and intense acidity define this beauty. Red fruit and licorice about. It tastes like a baby still. Indeed, in the coming years I'm sure it'll become much more giving. I've been using my Coravin on the 2013 Felsina Rancia for around a month. Consistent impressions so far. — 5 years ago
Dense red currant is ‘wrassled’ down by fennel aromas, mint and black cherry with strawberry and blackberry hidden beneath its thick canopy of fern and forrest; including moss and mushroom. Actually amazing! Not going to ever guess that this herbaceous monster with rim to rim colt density is an 11 yr old Calistoga! Meaty notes of grill and marinated fungi. Celeriac root, fennel and licorice notes define this angel with a minty coolness persisting! Blackberry and black cherry emerge in the finale to shine like young wine despite the years!#Larkmead #2007cab #Calistoga #Napa #napacab — 7 years ago
American Sangiovese!
As I recall, Shafer tried something similar with Firebreak. I loved that (past tense as it is no longer produced), but this is better.
The nose is earthy, yet dominated with cloves and cinnamon.
On the palete, its tightly knit. The wine is precise and polished. Tannins are ripe and muscular. Lovely berries and black olives define the flavor profile. Finishes with sweet tobacco.
Because of its youth, this needs air. It's a beautiful example that should be left to stretch it legs for at least 2 - 3 more years. My rating does not suggest where the wine could go three years from now. Be patient. I expect great things going forward. @Martin G Rivard thank you so much. — 8 years ago
Earthy and anise nose. Medium-plus body, bright plum fruit with nice mineral density and savory tones and herbs. Smooth tannins build, with long glycerine-like finish. A kind of dry orange peel flavor (probably a better description, just can't define) that was nice. Very smooth and complex. — 9 years ago

Amazing purity & depth and an electric tension define this wine much more than any fruity or floral descriptions.
100y vines on grey slate, vinified bone dry and with a great mineral spicy core. There is some fruit wound around it but it’s wound very tight. Great presence and a finish that just goes in forever.
This is complex and quite profound.
And costs peanuts for this experience! — 4 years ago
